Orphaned Native Animals

The most common orphaned animals on the Eyre Peninsula are Western Grey Kangaroos and Hairy Nosed Wombats. There are small populations of Euro on the Peninsula which occasionally end up orphaned and in the Northern areas of the Peninsula, Red Kangaroos sometimes move far enough South to end up as casualties as well. I will not go into detail here, but the important thing is to keep the animal warm and get it on to the correct milk formula. Australian native animals have specific dietary requirements. DO NOT feed them ordinary cows milk. Marsupial milk changes during lactation to provide the nourishment required at the different stages of joey development. Wombaroo Food Products produce Milk Replacers which are designed for individual marsupials, and are graded according to age of the joey to mirror the changes which occur in nature. There are four grades for kangaroos, three for wombats, and two each for possums and echidnas. A fact sheet and more support is available from the links below. If you are on the Eyre Peninsula and need help call. 86823016, 86822776, 0428823016 or 0410697051.

If you do not want to raise the animal yourself, please call any of the above numbers and we will find a volunteer carer.
