A review of Aquarius from the <aqua@onelist.com> :

Hello!

I'm new to the group, and noticing that it has been silent this week, I dug
into the archives and found Pete's assesment of Aquarius and I thought I'd
reply:

Back Far Mars
It does evoke a feeling of an old song doesn't it? I feel this way about
this song, and "Around the World" as well. To me it sounds more like the
70's and similar in sound to the songs by Electric Light Orchestra.  Still,
upon hearing "Back From Mars" now for like 20 times (as I have the entire
album), I think this is the best song here.  The melody is simply fantastic
and there are times where Lene's voice and the melody hit just the right
moment and I feel like crying. It's a song about the excesses of being in
showbiz, specially in Hollywood. They laugh at those things and so they
laugh at themselves as well. Lene sings:

"This is oh so just fantastic, I will live my life in plastic
Check the hair, and see what I wear."

The group is a lot more serious this time around but it's heartening to
know that they know who they are and they can still laugh at themselves.  I
was amazed by the overall maturity of the songs in the album. It's by far
leaps and bounds away from Aquarium, but the songs are still fun and
infectious. It's quite an achievement.

Bumble Bee
It is indeed very funny and I like it very much, and I think this is the
one song in the entire album that is closest their songs in Aquarium. I
think it's quite ironic. It's pretty obvious that the group has exerted a
huge amount of effort to develop their sound to another level, and yet it
is the song that is reminiscent of their last album which has the potential
to be Aquarius' biggest hit.  And I would understand it. It's a fun song,
and amidst all the maturity in the rest of the songs, the naughtiness of
"Bumble Bees" seems almost obscene.  It has the perfect amount of appeal in
all the right places that would attract those listeners who loved "Barbie
Girl".

Goodbye To The Circus
You know, I felt sad when I heard this track. Even though they say they are
coming back, the way they sing it, it sounds like they're going away
forever. This is a wonderful song, but I try to avoid it because I get all
choked up. Obviously, I'm quite emotional.

It's true. Rene is actually my favorite Aqua because he's funny and I like
the way he raps/sings. I heard that he took voice lessons prior to
recording Aquarius and it shows. It's nice to hear him sing with Lene in
all the tracks.

By the way, I am from the Philippines, and Aquarius was released here last
Sunday (Feb 27) which surprised me because it's a day ahead from it's
release elsewhere including Denmark. I was surprised upon entering the
store and saw rows upon rows of Aqua Aquarius cassettes on the shelves.
CD's aren't available yet at this time though.

.. And yet another reply to that one in <aqua@onelist.com>

Oh yeah, I think I heard that somewhere too. I remember Claus commenting that Rene actually had hair in that video. If its a funny video it could only be Freaky Friday or Bumble Bees.

I agree that Around The World may not be a good choice for a next single, but I personally like the song very much and don't think it's stupid in any way. Some of the lyrics don't make sense to me, but it's the melody that really makes me like any kind of song and I think the melody of the chorus of this song is simply terrific.  This is my list of favorite songs on Aquarius the topmost is what I like best. This is not the order of what I think ought to be the second or third single though, as that will be a
different list altogether.

Back From Mars
Cartoon Heroes
Bumble Bees
Cartoon Heroes
Freaky Friday
Halloween
We Belong to the Sea

I like all the rest almost equally, but the song I like least is "Good Guys".  It has a good melody inside it, but there seems to be something lacking, specially towards the end...

.. And a reply to that announcement at <aqua@onelist.com> :

Well apparently this will be the THIRD video they have shot for the album, on the official site it said that they filmed a video for the next single back in January.  They wouldn't name the song but they said in some update that it was the funniest video they have ever done.  So i am glad to hear they are
making another video, but i think it will be several months before we can see it.

Actually i am kind of disappointed with AROUND THE WORLD as being a single because i think that is my least favorite song on the album.  I would have picked all 11 other songs on the album before this one as a single.  I don't really know why i don't like the song.  It just is stupid to me because there doesn't seem to be a point to the song.  I mean i know they are talking about
their experiences around the world, but the song is just lacking something, it doesn't come together very well.  I was expecting a song about all the things they saw around the world and how seeing other countries changed thier lives.  Instead it ijust a stupid song about the things they bought in
foreign places.

My choice for singles (in this order) would be:
Cartoon Heroes
Freaky Friday
Bumble Bee
Halloween (released in Sept/Oct to coincide with Halloween)
An Apple A Day
We Belong To The Sea
Back From Mars

Announcement from a member of <aqua@onelist.com> :

Hey guys, check out the official site!
http://www.aqua.dk
There is a new update in the Aqua Diary section where Claus talks about their trip in Canada, and now they're back home to do their new video "Around the World". So it looks like that will be the 2nd single. What do you guys think of that song?
