Here is my review. Hey, if you have one too,
why not share it with everyone else? Send 'em to my mailbox
!
I'm not very familiar with dance tracks, so don't mind the lack of inspiring words : )
Rating : max 5
Happy Boys And Girls
|
Wanna be happy? A fast, and rather childish one (but then again, aren't almost all the songs here are?), and it lightens up the atmosphere. The first phrase, "BE HAPPY" is a fantastic way to jump-start the listeners. That should be the motto for everyone too, methinks. |
My Oh My
|
This one has a story behind it, I think. It reminds me of the medieval times, and the Robin Hood legend. A great dance beat, a great track. If I'm not mistaken, there's galloping at both ends of the song... Hold yer horses, it's gonna be an exciting ride! :) |
Barbie Girl
|
It's about the Mattel® (see how meticulous I am at putting those COPYRIGHT things? :) doll, her boyfriend and their fairy-tale like relationship. It's really cute, and it's a hit everywhere. Err.. of course, the lyrics (esp. the beginning and the end) might send shivers down a critic's spine, but who cares.. I adore this one! p.s. Have you heard the acoustic version of this song? It's surprising
how SLOW the song actually is, eh? |
Good Morning Sunshine
|
I won't call this a slow one, coz it has some heavy rhythms in the background. It's okay.. though it gets a little draggy sometimes. I like the rapping part. Cool. |
Doctor Jones
|
This is my personal fav. The chorus kinda gets into your head after a while, and it stays. I love it. I dance to it. I rave to it. This is what dance music should be! :) Period. |
Heat Of The Night |
I don't really fancy tunes with Spanish-Latin influence, so I've nothing much to say... I wonder who's making all those "yee-ha"s at the back.. :) |
Be A Man
|
I'm a sucker when it comes to pop ballads. So, guess who falls for this song? :) It surprises me how flexible Aqua can be in their styles. A touch of romance here, obviously.. I've a notion that Aqua has a totally different, matured approach when it comes to this song. The chorus should be an anthem to all men : "For once in your life, be a man" :) |
Lollipop (Candyman) |
Hey, what's this sweet sugary song about? :) Another track with ridiculous lyrics, ear-piercing voices by Lene, and deep low vocals provided by the Candyman. However, the tune is soooo good, it'd be a sin to ignore it. Luv the beats too. |
Roses Are Red
|
This number introduced me to Aqua in the first place, and it leaves a lasting impression. I love the idea of "reversing" the chorus. The lyrics are kinda silly, but the tune *is* catchy! |
Turn Back Time
|
Hmm.. I used to think this song was OKAY.. but after the radio overplayed it, I think it's AWESOME. I don't understand the lyrics fully, but it's definitely different from the rest of the album. Lene demostrates her powerful (and emotional) vocals in this number,
while the piano/keyboard accompanying her sounds very good indeed (haunting
at times, perhaps). The clock-like bridge reminds me that Aqua is one heckuva
band, and that if the laws of physics permit, they CAN turn back time :)

Calling You
|
Can anyone connect me to Aqua? :) Another lively, feel-good track, and it's very good! A great way to end a breathless hour (okay, 40 mins) of mind-numbing, Aqua-tic flood of dance/pop! |
Roses are Red |
My first exposure to Aqua, and it's this Video! I'm not sure, but are those 2 guys trying to get into a wild party mood? It's a usual dance vdo, nothing special to it. You see the quartet moving around, doing some kewl stuff.. Rene
(with eyebrows !!!) staring down at you, Soren kicking the words 'AQUA'
out, Claus standing around, and Lene.. well.. the Marge-Simpson lookalike
looks great in red eh? :) |
Barbie Girl |
Eeeks. This video is really cute !!! :) Their Japanese-anime style of "PRESENTED IN AQUASCOPE" was the first, of the soon-to-be Aqua trademark in their later vdos. The pastel-coloured background, the stuffed puppy, the car, the rollerskates, the Aqua pool, the night party, etc. etc. can make kids wanna get themselves a Barbie life too :) Ken??? I have to admit, he looks kinda silly at first, but after all those winking, hair-drying (hah), waiting in the car, etc. ... that guy is decidedly *much* better than his plastic counterpart :) C'mon ppl, get your scissors, and start shaving your Kens! As for the gal, she's definitely looks and acts like the ones you'd see in commercials. I love it when Barbie becomes angry and pouts - after Ken took something from her. Hey, hand it over! :) |
Doctor Jones |
Yes! After months of waiting, I finally got the chance to watch Doctor Jones. And I'm not a least bit disappointed ! The video promises the colourful, fun universe of Aqua. It's about Lene and Dr. Jones as separated lovers.. and how each misses the other.. Lene braving the jungle (with Soren and Claus) in search of her bald hero.. how they were captured by a tribe.. dumped into a cooking pot.. and finally, the Doctor saves the day. Oh, and some cute prancing around in loincloth after that :) I like the part where the dumb-looking snake attacked them. MOST adorable of all, there's a scene where Lene gets frighted by a humongous mean spider. She then gives that "how-dare-you-scare-me" kinda look, and <pow> - the spider was punched away. <APPLAUSE> cool! Is this Girl Power? :) The tribal ppl too.. ha ha.. playing with voodoo eh? They really turned Claus and Soren upside down, dontcha think? Oh, and not to forget, the scene where Jones emerges from slumber, and puts on his glasses - oh MAN, he HAS style !! I feel like cheering for him when he does that :) After watching this video, I'm convinced that these guys (and gal) can act (esp. Rene). If there's ever a need for light comedy and fun-filled music, look no further :) |
Lollipop |
I admit, I was kinda disappointed with this vdo. But since this was sort of a last-minute effort (they wanted to make this vdo a Jacko's night-of-the-undead lookalike, but BSB got the deal first), I guess you could forgive these guys. This vdo's about Lene, Soren and Claus visited by Dr.Spock-like candyman Rene, and his C.A.N.D.Y. machine. There are lollipops and sweetness overflowing everywhere, and the space travellers live happily every after, right? Of course not. They HAD to stumble upon a barren planet, where they pick up rocks and played golf (huh?). Lo and behold ! Evil aliens appear. Hmm. They look like Mars Attack rip-offs, and horrid too. They got captured and the aliens around with them (with lasers and rainbow beams). Candyman couldn't do anything, but his machine could, right? C.A.N.D.Y. beams down and saves the day.. by turning hi-tech alien weaponry into glucose-laden lollipop. There must be too much sugar in those lollipops - why? - coz somehow, the aliens immediately made peace with the group, shaking hands, and even demostrating that wave-like dance - after enjoying their lollipops. Very critical, aren't I? Sorry, but I think the cutesy and silliness has gone a lil overboard this time. There's nothing to laugh or shout about in this vdo. Lene's hairstyle undergoes major colour changes thruout the film, some of which reminds me of those 60s space-horror flicks. The C.A.N.D.Y. machine isn't impressive either.. it looks more like a cheap, oversized toy with wheels and a retractable claw. Oh well. |
Oh My |
My oh my.. shove off whatever bad ideas you had about Aqua after Lollipop. This IS a great vdo! The story goes like this : Lene plays the role of a rich girl with a secret treasure map. She gets kidnapped by some UGLY pirates (read : the guys!) dressed in pathetic rags, who wanted the treasure as much as she did. The pirates (led by Capt.-Hook-lookalike Rene) had a field time threatening, laughing, yelling, and whipping poor Lene. She was forced to walk the plank, into a sea of shark fins :) But somehow, she got hold of one of the swords, and fought back bravely (Girl Power?). She got Captain Rene by the throat, and she took his place in the ship. The ship sails for the treasure island, and along the way, the guys actually took a bath and were transformed into decent, good-looking seafarers. Take my words, Rene looks like a classic in that pirate costume :) They reached the island, dug for the treasure box, and found untold wealth. The next scenes were rather weird and .. hmm.. slightly irrelevant (in my opinion). All of the sudden, Rene's father appear (played by the great actor, Rene himself, only this time he IS bald, sports long, unkempt white beard, and has to contend with a single tooth :), together with his 2 sisters. Why 2 sis? Well, later that night, when everyone's having a great time around a campfire, the 2 ladies (pretty..) HAD to go off flirting with Soren and Claus. Why? So that Lene and Rene, the unseparable duo in any Aqua vdos, can be together. ok ok, I don't want to spoil the romance. sorry. Anyway, Rene's dad notices Lene's alone-n-bored look, goes up to her, and tries some reverse-psychology by saying that his son "doesn't have much sex appeal" (OH COME ON!!!). This leads on to the ending we all dream of... Beautiful Lene gets up, makes a move towards handsome, bald Rene, holds his chin, their gazes lock on to each other, and then, the "aww'-inducing passionate kiss that ensues. AWW :) Now, the comments. This vdo has a predictable plot. No score for Aqua for that one. But I'm really impressed with the props. The ship looks real, the setting looks impressionistic (well, blue cloth will have make do for a deep, rolling ocean), the attire looks great, the funny and hilarious acting deserves Oscars.. hmm.. the make-up too. Trust me, Soren and Claus looks AWW-ful. hah! |
Aqua's new single from the forthcoming album, "Didn't I" has been released. Thanks to some e-frens, I've had my chance to listen to it too. It's in the same vein as Aquarium, but lyricswise, it has improved a little. A good dance track, a good catchy tune.. well, is this a prelude to what's to be expected from the next album?
