AQUA Aquarium (Universal) They may have gottten into hot soup with their naughty, kinky "Barbie Girl", but it's a small price, considering that Aqua bought their one-way ticket to the fame (the notorious kind) on the strength of one pop ditty. But even without "Barbie Girl", the Danish quartet still have enough "goodies" to tickle dance fans into a frenzy with Aquarium. Comprising cutesy, bubblegum pop extravaganza that shouldn't be taken seriously, the group has chalked up quite impressive sales figures, especially in Japan where the first single "My Oh My" hit big time. The group vocals strike a nerve, courtesy of lead singer Lene's high-pitched Cindy Lauper-ish warblings. Even the packaging lives up to its image. The four don far-out hairdos and colourful outfits, and frolic with various sea animals on the album inlays. Too bad there are party poopers out there who can't take the group's tougue-in-cheek lyrics as they are. Some people just don't know how to have fun.
