    Sypnosis:

In his debut film, Vanness Wu plays Bond, a young, brooding kickboxer who aims to achieve the Star Runner championship title as well as win the heart of the woman he loves.

Although the story line is pretty much predictable, the movie has its own funny & touching moments. Vanness Wu looks fabulous here, his pretty face and well cut body easily eclipsing his co-star & leading lady Kim Hyu-Joo. However, viewers will fail to connect to Bond because no effort was made to enrich his character and to further endear him to the audience. Kim Hyu-Joo plays the role of Kim, his teacher, and she comes across as two-dimensional. Her face is expressionless most of the time and you wonder what Bond sees in her. The first half of the movie drags along, trying to establish the love story between Bond & Kim, but failing miserably. The second half is more interesting, because this is where we get to see Bond's kickboxing prowess. The fight scenes are well worth watching and Vanness Wu's moves are a sight to see. Must see scenes include Bond & Kim's kiss in the train station, the final battle between Tank & Bond and the dream sequence where Vanness Wu, dressed like a soldier, chases the train where Kim is riding, as it pulls out of the station. The cinematography here is beautiful, not to mention making good use of Vanness Wu's superstar stance.

As a whole, Star Runner is worth a watch especially for F4 fans despite the prosaic story line & vague ending. If you come to the theater expecting great fight scenes and to ogle at Vanness Wu on the big screen, you won't be disappointed. However, you probably won't feel the need to watch it again.
