Owner: Sean McDonald
Age/Status: 27, single with a girlfriend (who is going to be going to be attempting a joint JD/MBA degree in the fall.) Maybe I should propose now before she gets rich... Place I call home: Various cities in the midwest (Champaign, IL to Moline, IL to Omaha, NE to Champaign to Moline to Champaign in the last 15 months.) Champaign should be it for a while. Baseball memories/interests: Wish I could explain why I'm a Braves fan, I think I may have been dropped as a child. Grew up in Illinois, my dad a Cubs fan, my grandmother a Cardinals fan, I guess I just wanted a team of my own that I could watch. Enter Ted Turner. I vaguely remember watching a game early in 1982 and seeing Dale Murphy just destroy the ball (it had to be April, Dale loved April) and thinking it was the neatest thing I'd ever seen. I just started following the Braves from then on. Thanks to Ted's TV station and Dale's play I was hooked. I thought they would never lose, little did I know it was going to be 9 years after 82 before they became that kind of team. In that same year, a local newspaper had a contest for $50 for people to send in the date of the game that Rickey Henderson was going to break Lou Brock's record. I actually picked the correct day, but missed on the tiebreaker (the inning). I did get my name in the paper, which was a big deal for me as an eight year old. Rickey is still one of my favorite players today. He may be cocky ("Today I am the greatest" with Lou Brock next to him stands out in my mind - it was brash but it was true) but for some reason I love watching him disrupt the game still with his presence. Favorite players: Dale Murphy --- it pains me to say it, but he's just not quite a Hall of Famer, but he'll still be my favorite forever. Rickey Henderson --- see memories, plus I love guys who can disrupt a game with their presence anywhere on the field Barry Bonds --- I really don't care if he's moody or however else the media wants to portray him, he is the best LF ever (just send your Ted Williams arguments to my e-mail address, it won't be the first or last time I argue about this) and in my opinion he is one of 10 greatest players of all time. DMB/Sim experience/memories: Had Statis Pro baseball as a kid, didn't quite grasp it until I was 10 or so and enjoyed it. Really got into baseball simulations with the Pursue the Pennant board game. Still have a couple of copies of it in my parent's basement. Great game which of course led me to Pursue the Pennant PC baseball - I think the first version I had on the computer was 4.04, still remember loading it up in DOS. cd ptp404. baseball. I have stayed with product ever since. BTTF was my first league and it's still my favorite league. Other interests: Reading, writing, University of Illinois football and basketball, golf (playing and watching), pretty much anything sports on TV (except figure skating, or any other sport in which judges decide an outcome). Procrastination pleasures (or things I do that are a waste of time and rob me of sleep): Horror movies (bad ones especially), syndicated TV shows after midnight (X-Files, Cheers and Family Ties are the ones I seem to be watching at the moment), preparing for DMB drafts. Book/Movie/CD if I were on a deserted island: "Where I'm Calling From" (a collection of short stories) by Raymond Carver. "Evil Dead 2" would probably be the movie, although there are much better ones out there. "The Unforgettable Fire" by U2 or "Vs." by Pearl Jam would be my picks. |
