Thoms,
Erie Too Much For Injured Cardinals, 22-16
The Cardinals lose RB Vic Washington in the first half and this loss proved to just be too much for the reeling Cards as they drop their 5th straight game. Erie came in with an identical 0-4 season record, but played way better than their record would show. DT Art Thoms had a career day as he had 3 sacks, 2 def, 3 hurries along with 7 tackles. Thoms almost single handedly stopped the Cardinal offense on the day! The game was a close affair. 13-13 at the half, 16-16 with just over 2 minutes left in the game. It was here, like they had been doing all game, that the Redbirds shot themselves in the foot and kept them from winning their first game of the season. The Express had just taken a 19-16 lead with 2:05 left. The ensuing kickoff had Ret Ralph McGill fumble the ball back to the Express who added another FG to win 22-16. For McGill, this was the 2nd fumble of a KO on the day. These two errors cost the Cardinals 10 points!!! A team like the Redbirds just can't recover from these kind of errors!!! All-in-all, a bad, sloppy day for the flat Cardinals Erie Express head to Cincinnati as the Cardinals head to Trenton. Let's hope this week is a little better,..... but with Bradshaw and Vic Washington out for another week, the chances are VERY SLIM!!!! |
