We run into a little confusion while on I-75, we didn't realize we had to take I-4 east to get to Orlando. So when Lorie all of a sudden took a off ramp I was totally confused "What in the heck is she doing?" I thought to myself while looking for signs to give me a hint. I finally spot a sign that tells how far Orlando is and breathe a sigh of relief. "Good thing Lories in the lead," I think "I totally missed the sign that said take I-4. Finally we hit Orlando and after driving around for about 45 minutes we pull into a halfway decent looking motel. We get out of our cars "So ya think we should try this place?" I ask as I walk over to Lorie's car. "Yeah, I think we should" Autumn says "It's getting dark and I don't think we should try to follow each other then". "Autumn's right, it would be to hard once it's night, specially since we have no clue on how to get around Orlando". Lorie says. "Ok, then lets get a room" I say walking towards the office. We walk in and go up to the desk. "Hi, we would like a room please." Autumn says to the guy at the desk. "You want 1 or 2 rooms?" He asks as his eyes travel up and down checking the 3 of us out. "1 but with 2 beds. OH and we'll need a cot too" "A cot?" "Yea a cot, you know something to sleep on besides one of the beds" I say getting tired of being looked over like a piece of meat. Lorie gives me a look that tells me to shut up while Autumn is trying to stifle a laugh. "Alright, no need to get upset, calm down. I'll get you a cot to put in the room" "Oh thank you soo much, your way to kind" I say smiling at him very sarcastically. This time I get dirty looks from both Autumn and Lorie. "Would you stop being such a bitch" Autumn says in a angry whisper. "Really, you know he could refuse us a room and then where would we be?" Lorie says angry also. "Well damn excuse me" I say getting pissed "Sorry for getting tired of being gawked at like I'm a piece of meat waiting to be taken!" I walk away towards the room the guy is standing at. "Thank You" I say as I snatch the keys out of his hand. "Yea, my pleasure" He says smiling at me. He continues to stand there until Autumn and Lorie walk into the room I'm getting really peeved by now because he is gawking at them the whole time. "Ok, your job is done now, you can leave" I say to him as I slam the door in his face. "Damn girl what got into you?" Autumn asks. "I know it was annoying and rude but it's not like he did anything else." "I don't care it was annoying and I didn't feel like dealing with it ok?" I say to her hoping she was getting the hint I was tired of talking about it. If she did, I don't know cause Lorie jumped in "Ok, guys lets leave it and get to the things that are important..like who's sleeping where and where are we going to eat." Autumn and I turn around and look at her "Lorie's right, lets figure out that stuff and forget that guy. Agreed?" Autumn asks looking at me "Agreed" I say We finally take a look around the room. "This place needs more light" lorie says throwing open the curtains. "Ewww, it looked better in the dark" Autumn replies srenching up her nose. "You got that right" I say with a hint of discust in my voice. We all decide to clean the room before we got something to eat so we could come back to a clean room. It seemed like forever but it was finally livable. "Whew, we're finally done with this place" Lorie said while collapsing in a chair. "I thought it was going to be a never ending job." Autumn said while laying down on a bed. "Well since were done cleaning we should grab something to eat. It's been a while." I said grabbing my purse and walking towards the door. "Wait! we gotta decide who's sleeping where" I turn around and look at Autumn "Do we gotta do that now?" I whine "I'm hungry." "We should cause after we eat we'll probably be too tired to decide then." "Dang, you and your rational side." I say to her as I plop down into a chair. She chuckles "Sorry, it's a curse." "Ok, how do we do this?" Lorie asks. "Hmmm, lets draw pieces of paper. We'll shred some napkins and the littlest strip gets the cot." I say. "Well I'll just make it easier, I'll take that cot." Autumn says. "Are you sure?" Lorie asks her. "Yea, it's no big deal. Hopefully we won't be here long." "Well ok if that's what you want." I say to her, while thinking how cool that was of her. Autumn smiles "It's no problem. I'm going to freshen up and then we can go grab a bite." "Ok, sounds like a plan" I say as she walks into the bathroom. When she shut the door I look at Lorie and whisper "That was really cool of her to take the cot" "Yeah, it sure was. We'll have to do something to show her we appreciate it." "Yea, that's a good idea". Autumn comes out and Lorie and I take our turns cleaning up. "Oh finally, it's time for FOOD!" I yell walking out the door. "As much as you are hungry you sure look like you eat nothing at all." Loire says to me. "Yeah, it's my curse. I'm hyper so I use a lot of energy." I explain while walking on top of the parking blocks. "You, hyper? Never would of guessed" Autumn says laughing. I look at her and laugh "Sorry, can't help it, I gotta keep moving or I'm bored crazy" "It's all good girl. We'll just have to learn how to keep up with you" Autumn says laughing. "Damn straight you will. Now..where we gonna eat, I'm starved." I ask them. We stand in the motel parking lot thinking about where we wanna eat when I see a McDonalds down the street. "Hey, let go hit McD's" "You just wanna go there because it's Ajs' fave place" Lorie says laughing at me. Smiling I say "Yea and the problem with that is? I mean it's food and we're hungry, right?" "Good point, let's go" Autumn says walking towards McD's. We go in and unfortunatly..no AJ but I got food and that was a good thing. I notice Autumn checking out the street in front of McD's so of course feeling the need to tease her I ask "Uhh..hey Autumn searching for any particular vette??" She turns away from the window smiling "Oh you know it. I know there is no chance but now that we're here, I have to look" "I know what your saying" I start to say to her but she is already looking out the window again. I notice Lorie's been awfully quiet "What's wrong Lorie, homesick?" "Naw not really just thinking about all that's ahead of us." "Yea I know what you mean, it sure is scary starting over but we'll be fine" I say to her "I mean, we have each other to help us through it" I say trying to cheer her up. After finishing our food we return to the room and get ready for bed. We tried to stay awake and talk but once our heads hit the pillow's we were out cold.
When we woke up the next morning we decided to hit the beach and start looking for jobs the next day. After all the driving we thought we deserved a day of fun and sun. The beach was great. The sand was white and the water was a deep blue. I love the way the horizon and the ocean looked as one. It was beautiful. Of course there was the guys that were there too. We enjoyed checking out the men in Orlando and had to admit they were very nice to look at. We couldn't believe how hot it was and around 3:00 decided to go back to the motel. We weren't used to the heat and it was getting to us. When we got back to the room we were grateful that the air worked. We laid around the rest of the day and decided for dinner we would order pizza. After the pizza was gone we started to get ready for bed. After Lorie got out of the bathroom I ask Autumn "So what time should we get up in the morning?" "I say we should get up around 6:00." She saw the look of horror on my face and laughed "Sorry, Trelyn but we should get up early so we can get a head start before the heat hits." Grumbling I reluctantly agreed. "Yea please lets try to beat the heat, I think I'm gonna die from heat exhaustion" Lorie said from her position in front of the air conditioner. "I thought being from Georgia you'd be use to it" I ask her. "No, the air in Georgia isn't as heavy as it is here" She said plopping in her bed. "Ahh I see. My turn in the shower" I say bouncing off my bed and making a dash for the bathroom. "That girls a trip" Autumn says laughing. "Yeah she is but dang I wish I had her energy" Lorie says laughing with her. "Heck with her energy you could give a whole city block electricity for a month." About 15 minutes later I come out of the bathroom and Lorie's already asleep and Autumn is channel surfing. "Ok girl I'm done. It's all yours" "Cool, I need a shower" Autumn says while turning off the tv. "Yea you do and make sure you use plenty of soap" "You watch it girl" Autumn says through the door "remember paybacks" "Oh yea, I'm shaking." I yell back. I lay down in bed and fall fast asleep.
The next morning I hear the alarm clock go off but I totally ignore it. I hear the other two get up and start whispering to each other. "Should we get her up?" "Naw let her sleep until both of us are done" "All right sounds good" I must of fallen back to sleep cause the next thing I know is I have freezing cold water poured over my head "What the...!!!" I scream as I jump outta bed. Autumn and Lorie are cracking up so hard they had tears in their eyes. I look at Autumn and notice a cup in her hands. "Why you little..." I say while walking towards her. Autumn puts her hands up in front of her "Hey I told you about paybacks and I just got mine" "Oh you are sooo not funny" I say to her trying to stay mad but thinking that it was a really good payback, but would never admit it to her. "Well I thought it was totally funny. You should of seen your face. That was priceless." Lorie says in-between laughing fits. "Oh yea, haha Lorie, you wait you just wait." "What? Why? wait for what? I didn't do anything." She says feigning innocence. "Don't try to play innocent, that's my job. You had something to do with this and I'll get you both back. Just you watch." I say gathering my clothes and going into the bathroom to get ready. After I close the door I hear them both go "oooo, We're soooo scared" and start cracking up again. I think to myself-Yea you two just wait-.
I get out of the bathroom and we decide to head out and grab a bite to eat. We go to this little diner that's just a block away from the hotel we're staying at. We sit down and order our food. "After we eat we better get started on our job hunting" Autumn says to us. "Yea, I guess we should, though I am not exactly looking forward to it." I mumble. "Oh, come on Trelyn you know we have to sooner or later." Autumn says to me while rolling her eyes. "Yea, but I'd rather have it later then sooner" "It won't be that bad" Lorie says to me "I know we will find a job pretty fast." "I sure hope your right, lor, I hate looking for jobs" I say to her. They both nod their heads in agreement. The waitress brings our food at that time and we start to eat. We eat in silence as all 3 of us are in our own little worlds. We finish eating and decide it is time to go job hunting. We buy a paper and take it back to the room and start searching for jobs. We each find some good possibilities and head out in separate directions.
*Lorie*
I've walked down this stupid block for at least the hundredth time and I still can't find the address that is in the paper. It's way too hot out here and I am getting very pissed that I can't find this office. Finally I think to myself -Forget this crap it's way to f'n hot out here to be searching for a damn building that I swear somebody made up just to make someone look like a fool. I'm heading back to the room- With that decided I walk to the nearest bus stop and start thinking about my day. The bus finally comes and as I'm sitting down in the seat I wonder how Tre and Autumn are doing in their search.
*Autumn*
Screw this, that is at least the 30th time I've heard that stupid lame line 'Sorry ms. we're not hiring right now' I give up! I scream to myself as I walk out of yet another office building. I make it outside and can't believe how hot it got from just the little while I was in the place. Dang it's hot. I think as I start using the newspaper as a fan. I'm calling it a day and heading back to the room. I get to the bus stop and sit down hoping it's not gonna be forever before the bus gets there. Finally the bus comes and as I enter and sit down I wonder how Lorie and Tre made out today.
*Trelyn*
Man that dude was hellafine, I think as I walk out the door of the bar I just applied at. Working for him wouldn't be considered work, hell it would be a pleasure. I smile at the thought of being able to spend some of my Friday and Saturday nights watching the manager/bartender working and notice a guy is looking at me and sees my smile and thinks I am smiling at him. Oh great, I better get out of here before he thinks I wanna talk to him. I walk away and decide it's really way to hot to continue searching for a job. I get to the bus stop and wait for the bus. -Hurry up you stupid bus it's too damn hot to be just sitting here, I feel like I'm baking on the spot-The bus comes and I get on and welcome the air as I sit down I wonder how Autumn and Lorie did today.
I get back to the room and Lorie and Autumn are already back. I can tell just by looking at them the job hunting went for them about as well as it went for me. "So, how'd it go?" Lorie asks me. "Well, I filled out aps and talked to a lot of people and got the same response 'Sorry, we're just not hiring right now" I tell her as I motion for her to make some room so I can sit down on the bed. "Yep I think I heard that at least 30 times today." Lorie said while moving over. "Yea, same here." Autumn says.
For the next 2 weeks we faithfully search for a job and for 2 weeks we find nothing. Now we are over cooked, frustrated with the whole job situation and getting just plain sick of it all. The heat, the fact we know absolutely no one in the city and we are running out of the money that we all brought down with us. It's finally getting to us and it is beginning to come out in our attitudes towards one another. We were all 3 wondering why we even came to Florida at all. One night Lorie and I were in the middle of a big gripping session when Autumn decided she had had enough of us and our complaining. "HEY!" She yelled at us. Lorie and I stopped in mid gripe and turned and looked at her. "What?" We ask in unison not trying to mask the irritation of being interrupted. "Look, I know it's been hard finding a job but we have to keep trying, we can't give up. I mean exactly what did we leave behind us? Dead end jobs, going no where relationships and the dying hopes and dreams of a better life. We moved here looking for that better life, we can't just give up because it's not going exactly the way we wanted it to. I know it's hot and I know we are having a harder time finding jobs then we thought we were going to, but we will find them. They are out there and when we find them we will be on our way to that better life. We just have to believe that and keep going, we CANNOT quit!" Autumn's face was red with the emotion she felt in the words and she turned around and walked into the bathroom and slammed the door.
*Autumn*
I slammed the door of the bathroom after practically screaming at Tre and Lorie. I couldn't help it, I am sooo sick of listening to the moaning and groaning that things are too hot, it's just not going the way we wanted it. What did they expect it was gonna be all roses and butterflies down here? I looked at myself in the mirror and decide it was a good thing I left the room when I did because even though I said what I said to them, I had my doubts and my fears. It wasn't going the way I thought it was going to either. It was hotter then I expected and finding a job seemed almost impossible. But I wasn't going to let them know about my doubts and fears, I couldn't I was afraid that if they knew they would just decide to give up, and I wasn't gonna let them. I came in here just to get away after my outburst but decided to take a shower and try to relax.
*Lorie and Trelyn*
We watched her walk into the bathroom and slam the door. After a few minutes we hear the water in the shower start up. I look at Lorie and ask "So, you think she really believes all that stuff she said?" "I don't really know but she sure sounded confident" "Yea she did, I wish I was that sure about it all" I tell Lorie as I got up and made my way to my own bed and laid down. "Me too Tre, me too." Lorie says while laying down in her bed.
*Autumn*
I come out of the bathroom and Lorie and Tre are alseep -Whew-I think to myself -I'm glad they fell asleep, at least I won't have to answer any questions on how I can be so sure that things are gonna work out, cause honestly, it would be really hard to come up with answers I just don't have- I take my hair dryer in the bathroom and dry my hair and finish getting ready for bed. I set the alarm for 6 for the next round of job hunting hell.
