For Science

One thing that strikes me about this song is the possible word-play involved with the word "sirens." The word apparently refers to the kind of sirens found on police cars and screaming fire engines. It could also, however, refer to the original Sirens, mythical women who used their beautiful voices to lure sailors to their doom. In the song, the girl from Venus (another nice bit of word-play, since Venus is the goddess of love and beauty, in addition to being a planet) is presented as a sort of Siren. The male lead is attracted to this girl, despite the danger she poses ("Flowers die and so will I"). Indeed, the frightening-but-attractive woman motif occurs frequently in TMBG songs, including "She's Actual Size" and "Out Of Jail" (both of which could possibly be about the same woman).
