Battle For The Planet Of The Apes

At live shows, the audience would shout "People!" when the back-up band (which, at the time, was made up of Hal Cragin and Dan Hickey) was playing, and "Apes!" when the Johns were playing. After it was over, the Johns would announce the winner. I think the people almost always won. In the recording that made it to the album, it is somewhat difficult to hear the audience, possibly due to the fact that this came from a fan-submitted bootleg, rather than an official soundboard recording. More recent shows have featured Battle For The Planet Of They Might Be Giants, a variation on this song in which the audience chants the band members' names, rather than "people" and "apes."
