CROSSWORD CLUES

A lot of people who know my passion for Cryptic Crossword felt that I should have a section on Crossword. So I am starting this and shall cover the different types of clues in each Newsletter.

Every Cryptic Crossword clue will contain a 'definition' of the answer (usually at the beginning or the end), or the whole clue will be the definition.

Of the different types of Cryptic clues, ANAGRAMS or a re-arrangement of the letters are the most popular. For knowing whether the clue is an anagram, look for words that suggest mixing: "confused", "wild", "upset", "broken" etc.

I have given a few anagram clues ranging from a 4-letter word (parliamentary, of course) to a 12-letter word. I have also underlined the word from which the anagram is formed. For example, the solution to the clue 'IS AHA wild IRAS officer?(5)' is 'SAHAI'. The definition in the form of a jumble is 'IS AHA' and the answer is 'An IRAS officer'. 'Wild' indicates an anagram (and does not refer to Sahai!). Similarly, the solution to 'A HUMAN LOT is confused by this IRAS officer(4,5)' is ATUL MOHAN (Dy. CAO(G) is expected to confuse a lot of humans!)

Good Luck and get cracking on the following Anagrams!!
