1. The Difference between the Sidhe and the Elementals. The Sidhe are the Tuatha De Danaan, or as we call them, the Faery. They are the great beings of light that arrived in cloud ships, which blocked out the sun for three days. The Faery were quickly recognized as the masters of all knowledge and of magick. They were the ones that became the gods and goddesses of Irish legends and folklore. The Elementals are the beings of the natural greenworld. They appear as Sylphs of the Element of Air, Salamanders of the element of Fire, Undines of the Element of Water and Gnomes of the element of Earth. While these beings have been mistakenly referred to as ‘fairies’ they are pure and simply creatures of the Elements. 2. The Importance of the Sidhe in Faery Magick. Faery Magick is Magick whereby one calls upon the beings of the Tuatha De Danaan to aid in their magickal work. It is important to connect with the Faery in order to be successful in magickal work of this nature. One may connect with the Faery by means of setting up an altar in ones home to honor them. Performing a daily devotion to align with deity each day is of utmost importance as well. Ones Daily Devotion, while not only being a means of communication with the Faery aids in developing ones psychic faculties. Developing the intuition this way enables one to perceive these beings and to feel and utilize the energy of the Faery. The act of regular communion with the Faery helps to awaken them in our realm. When we begin to awaken them in this realm we may become awakened in their realm as well. This only adds to deepen the connection between the Faery and us, which obviously aids in any magickal or ritual work. 3. The Importance of Elementals in Earth Magick Earth being made up of all the elements naturally requires one to become intimately involved in the affairs of elemental beings. Mankind has gradually drawn away from the natural world in modern times with the advancement of technology. With this advancement came pollution, toxic waste and other hazards to the beloved greenworld of spiritual peoples from times past, and present. This is precisely why it is very important for Earth Magicians of all traditions to become environmentally aware. By walking outdoors, consciously seeking alliance with these elemental beings one strengthens their connection with the whole of the Earth. One must work diligently to regain the trust our ancestors had with the Green World. One can regain this trust in many ways. Recycling and doing ones part in caring for the earth’s natural resources demonstrates that we are not like the other humans who have destroyed their dwelling places. Setting up altars in honor of these beings invites them into our homes and helps to acquaint them with our spiritual natures. Once we have befriended the elemental beings they become willing allies in our magickal pursuits. |
