The Road Sweeper :From A long time go I fell in Love with a beautiful Girl
She used to sweep in front of this door
She had a beautiful smile
I used to go to her place stand silently in front of her
She used to sweep in front of the door and tell herself a story
I went there so much that her love touched my heart
we started sweeping together under the stairs of love
But one day the beautiful girl left me
She left me her broom as a gift , she went away and forgot
And here I am now going every where sweeping many places ,
while remembering the beautiful girl on the door of that house
The Tomatoes merchant : Road sweeper tell me what time is it ?
The Road Sweeper :why would you want to know the time ?
The Tomatoes merchant :At sunrise I shall be sent to trial , at what time the sun rises
The Road Sweeper :When the road sweepers come , it means that the light is about to shine , and the sun is about to rise .
The Tomatoes merchant :You are the ones that make the sun rise ?
The Road Sweeper :But of course , the light comes and stands out of the city , waiting for us to open the doors of the city for him , we clean the side walks and the plazas so that the lights won't be hurt
The Tomatoes merchant : And if you were late one day ? shall the sunrise be late too ?
The Road Sweeper : The road sweepers are never late , because they don't use a watch to tell time , instead , they use the broom , when it is time , the broom on its own starts beating them so that will wake up and go to their job , the broom is better than the watch , take the officers for example they all have watches yet they are always late , if instead of the watch they used a broom , they would have never been late
This a sketch from the play "Al Shakhs" (VIP) when the VIP comes to the city , and doesn't want to stay for the dinner , they all blamed the tomatoes merchant , and confiscated her chariot , and sent her to trial , and this the first scene of the second act of the play where Fairouz ( merchant ) meets Marwan Mahfouz (road sweeper) who claims to be in the capacity of controlling the sunrise , and here again we see the importance of the common people in the Rahbani plays ,those people are the ones that make life , yet no one remembers them , in this sketch we go on a short trip of a road sweeper who knows how to dream during his work like the lamp man in De Saint Exupery's "Little Prince" he knows the importance of his Job , He does it perfectly , and his loyalty towards his Job makes the importance of his Job , so important that it seems like the sun abodes by his schedule , unlike those who work in fancy offices , yet have no respect for their time nor their jobs.
And we ask ourselves , in what Category do we fall ?
