Zakynthos- Kefalonia and Olympia
Another day trip we made was to see the next island, Kefalonia. I was especially looking forward to this, having read Captain Corelli's Mandolin several thousand times. It took 3 attempts to get there since the sea was too rough, but it was worth the wait. There are some more photos I want to add to this page when I find them. The Monastry was the first stop, followed by caves and the underground lake. We stopped at the beach below for a swim. The water was completely clear and tiny fish were swimming around our ankles.
St Gerasimos Monastry. Just behind me while I'm taking this photo is the chapel. St Gerasimos lived in a cave beneath the chapel for several years. We climbed down a step ladder to have a look, and they were impressively small.
Kefalonia
The final trip we made was to Olympia, on mainland Greece. We had our own personal guide in Amy, who was much better than the guides there, and not only because she spoke better English!
All I remember about this statue is that it's unusual because other statues have shiny clothes and dull bodies, so that people notice the clothes, whereas this one has a shiny body and dull clothes. Goodness knows who it is (suggestions on a postcard) but I quite liked it.
Elaina, Adriana and Amy at the stadium, the site of the first olympic games. Somewhere else around the ruins is where they light the flame for the Olympic Games.
