Drama CDS
Drama tracks are the spoken versions of the manga acts- like a video without the images. The great thing about them is they leave so much room for the imagination- even if you don't understand Japanese you can pick up on the level of excitement from the energetic tones of the voice actors, the sound effects, and the nifty (and occasionally clique) background music. Many manga have drama tracks done for them- some go on to be animated, some don't, but the drama tracks are considered just as good as any other studio production.

Fake has produced three different drama cds that are the "vocalizations" of the first act, the sixth act, and the nineteenth and twentieth acts. The first drama cd, Meetings, tells a slightly different but nonetheless enjoyable version of how Ryo, Dee, Bikky, and Carol first met each other. The second, Changes, picks up when Diana comes to visit the 27th station, and Barkley becomes the manager. The last one, Final Act, covers Ryo coming to deal with his past, his grudges (yes, even good old Ryo holds grudges- and I'm not talking about the one's he stubbornly holds against Dee), and finally, his feelings towards Dee. The last one culminates in the love scene between Ryo and Dee that really makes me admire those Japanese voice actors.... ^___^ Now, if only they would let me see....

I own the first and final cds, and let me tell you, it was NOT easy getting them. I haunted jpqueen for months and tackled several japanese websites that I didn't entirely trust before I was finally able to get my hands on the copies. And they took forever to ship, too. -_- However, they were entirely worth the effort! The voice actors were better than I ever could have hoped, and the overall goodness surpassed "chocolatey" and hit "overbearingly beautifully blissful", which is pretty rare.

I now offer a clip of the yaoi scene from the Final Act CD! It can be downloaded from my Yahoo!Briefcase, and is listed under Songs-Fake. Be sure to note it is definately of "R" nature.

I highly recommend purchasing the cds if you are a big fan of Fake. Although they are very difficult to track down, they're fairly inexpensive- about $20 to $30, the same you would pay for a good doujinshi or a music cd. The two I have are each 48 minutes long, with excellent sound quality (It's Japanese- what do you expect?) and solid cases.

Places you can purchase the cds
  • JPQueen- you can reserve a used copy here, although you may have to wait a long time.
  • CD Japan- the occasional copy can be found here for a low price. I don't know if there's a wait, as I've never ordered from them.
  • Amazon.co.jp- although the site is namely in Japanese, you can order the cds fairly easy without knowing a word of the language. I reccommend this one, as the cds are new and the prices are slightly lower. However, there is a long wait for the product to be shipped (mine took 3 months...)
  • If you know any American retailers that sell them, contact me so that I can put them up.
