Sanami Matoh's original FAKE manga first appeared in 1994 in BexBoy comics and recently reached its conclusion in 2000. There are a total of twenty acts, in 1-3 installments each, and a total of seven manga books (tankoubon) in all. The books are around 190-230 pages long, each with a colored first page and everything else black and white. I'm aware that the original BexBoy magazine included colored first pages of the acts as well, which is why some of them seem dark when printed in black and white in the tankoubon. So, why get the Japanese when it's being produced in English? Many, many reasons, my friend. I'll give the short list. First of all, the Japanese version is the complete, unadulterated original. No editing. No mistakes in translation. No misspelled names, or poorly placed text. This is the real deal, complete with Matoh's little scribbled side comments that seem to make it so much more personal. Secondly, the print quality is much better than the American version- the details are finer, the lines smoother and lighter, the toner is something more than dots flung across the page. Then there's just the good old Japanese language, which artistically beautiful in its own right. .... I don't know... maybe I'm alone in loving the original, but for some reason it makes so much more sense in my mind. Oh well... Places you can purchase the Japanese manga (** means recommended)
