Malaysia has the potential of being the centre of homeopathic and acupuncture learning in the region.
The setting up of the Faculty of Homeopathy Malaysia ( FAHOM) and Research Institute of Medical Acupuncture (RIMAc) Malaysia at Kelantan, which conduct a five years course is the testimony to this potential. Prof Dr Sir Nik Omar bin Haji Nik Daud, President of Registered Homeopathic Medical Practitioners Association (MRHP) said this at the opening of a three days 5th Asia Pacific Conference On Homeopathy, Acupuncture, Oriental and Complementary Medicine, here.
He said that the services rendered by the members of FAHOM, RIMAc and MRHP for the last 20 years to needy people like the refugees in Pakistan, Afghanistan and flood victims in South Thailand were noteworthy.
" Such services will help the homeopathic and alternative form of treatments gain firm ground in this country."
He urged all homeopathic and other health practitioners in this country to help the government upgrade the healthcare of the people and eradicate the drug menace among the youth of the country.
Earlier Dr Nik Omar who is also the Vice President of Asian Homeopathic Medical League (AHML) said that Malaysia needed more qualified homeopathic and other healthcare practitioners to cater the demand for their services.
" Homeopathic system of medicine is becoming popular not only in Malaysia but throughout the world because it is simple, effective, safe and harmless." he said.
At the end of 1999 The Faculty of Homeopathy Malaysia has produced more than 3000 graduates from all over the world and since 1970 the group has treated more than 1 million patient with homeopathic treatment.
Sir Nik Omar hope the participants would take advantage of the conference to exchange views, upgrade their knowledge and strengthen effort for official recognition and scientific development of the homeopathic system of medicine in Asean region. He said that," Complementary medicine is an important component of human civilization. In the history of human and social development, it has made significant contribution to the growth and prosperity of all nations of the world. Today it is still playing a due role in the people's medical and healthcare services. The World Health Organization has attached a great importance to the application of traditional and complementary medicine, education, research and development all over the world, as it has reach a new level and made great contribution to the people's healthcare.
About 350 homeopathic doctors, acupuncturists and other health practitioners specialist from 25 countries has taken part in this great conference including United States, England, Germany, Spain, Brazil, Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Kuwait, Egypt and Malaysia are attending the conference.
On the opening ceremony by the Chief Minister of Kelantan, Dato Haji Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, the Chief Minister gave away diplomas and degrees to 45 student who has passed their final examination last year.
Earlier Dato Nik Abdul Aziz has launched the new Homeopathic College & Hospital campus to be built on an 8 acres land at Kapong Gelang Mas, Pasir Mas, Kelantan.
He hoped that when the new campus is ready, more people can be benefited to homeopathic treatment, beside that more local and foreigners will come to Kelantan to study homeopathic and others form of alternative therapies.
