History of the Falconer Fire Department
~ Part Five ~

     In 1988 the first woman was accepted into membership. Sandy Webster was voted into the Hook and Ladder Company.  Also in 1988 Keith Nelson received the Chautauqua County Firefighter of the Year award.  In 1990 the Falconer Fire Department again nominated the Chautauqua County Firemen of the year, Assistant Chiefs Wayne Oste and Peter Fuller were co-recipients of the award.
     Groundbreaking for a new fire hall took place on August 31, 1990 and dedication was August 10, 1991.  The project was a join effort completed after a great deal of cooperation between the Village of Falconer and the Town of Ellicott with the assistance of the fire advisory board.  The new hall provides much needed room for equipment storage, adequate parking for responding fireman, a training area, an air bottle refilling station, and a computer operated alarm system which will link the existing upgraded Gamewell alarm system with the soon to be on line county wide enhanced 9-1-1 alarm system.
     One hundred years after the inception of Falconer Hose Company #1, the Volunteer Firemen's Association of Falconer, New York Incorporated is a thriving organization.  The Department currently operates with 4 pieces of equipment which in
clude : Engine 401 - a 2000 Pierce Quantum, Ladder 401 - a 1993 Pierce Quint, R-401 - a 1998 Braun A.L.S. Ambulance, Car 401 - 1995 Chevy Tahoe Command Vehicle.
