She ran blindly through the trees, her only thoughts were on getting away from the thing that took over her childhood friend. Suddenly, an arm reached out and she screamed something terrifying. “Shh, sister, it is only me.” A familiar voice said. “Dram?” She looked up in bewilderment. Suddenly, she burst into tears. “What has happened to you?” He took in her torn clothes and the scrapes and bruises from the struggle. “Oh, Dram!” She said through tears. “It wasn’t Camden! Well, it was, but something possessed his mind.” She babbled. “Calm down, dear sister. Breathe deeply and relay the story to me.” He said soothingly and she did just that. By the time she finished, he was seething with anger. “I must find him.” He turned to start running, but she held his arm. “No brother. We do not know what has poisoned him and he could be stronger. He felt stronger when…” She trailed off, not wanting to relive the moment. “You are right.” He sighed, “Let’s get you home.” They walked together silently. He held her close and she clung to him, seeking comfort. Finally, they made it to the house. She glanced behind her and there was Camden standing in the woods, his eyes as black as the cloud that surrounded him. She blinked and he was gone. Shuddering, she stepped inside, knowing that this would not be her last encounter with the thing that used to be Camden. |
