Do you believe in fortune cookies? Some people believe in them, some don't. But most of them only believe when it's a good fortune, if it's bad one or a warning of awareness around your surroundings, people usually just smile and throw it away, the thing is...those are mostly true...

"Thanks." Angela said to the waiter as he gave back my change and two fortune cookies.

"Let me see it!" She stretched my arm as far as possible to reach the other end of the table.

"No, I have to read it first!" Brian jerked the paper slip away. They had been going out for three months now and now they were having their usual dinner date, except tonight, Brian was going to meet Angela's family for the first time.

"Let's see, 'You will have a change in your love life.' interesting." Brian grinned.

"What kind of change?" She asked, laughing at the message.

"Open yours or I'll open it for you!" Brian tried to steal the cookie from her.

"Can't do that! I have to open it." Angela opened the cookie. 'Hold on to the one you love, for they might leave you.'

"So? What does it say?" Brian asked as he takes a sip of his water.

"Something that makes no sense. Let's go." She dropped the paper slip in her glass as she stood up and headed out the door.

"Wait up!" Brian hurried out the restaurant to catch up with his girlfriend.

"You okay?" Brian asked, worries appeared in his baby blue eyes as he unlocked the car.

"Yeah, I'm just nervous about you meeting my family and that fortune cookie just creep me out!" Angela complained as she climbed in the passenger seat.

"I didn't know my little angel was superstitious." Brian grinned as he starts the car.

"I'm not! But today's special!"

"I know, trust me, everything will be fine!" He kisses her gently on the cheek as they sped off into the beautiful sunset.

"Mom? I'm home! And I brought someone you really want to meet!" Angela yelled at the top of my lungs while searching the whole house.

"Need a hand, or rather need a lung?" Brian asked, taking off his shoes and put them neatly on the side of the stairs.

"Yeah, go look in the kitchen for me."

Almost as Brian left the room, her mom walked down the stairs. "You bellowed?"

"Well, I couldn't find out! Brian? I found my mom!" Angela smiled while heading towards the kitchen. But Brian wasn't there.

*~*

"Angela?" a voice shouted from the backyard.

"You need some help?" Brian asked though the screen door. He was surprise to sees a girl with long dark brown hair standing in the middle of the garden with a small shovel in her hand and covered in dirt. The girl screamed and throws the shovel at Brian.

"Whoa, calm down! I'm Brian, you know, your sister's boyfriend? You must be Jenny." Brian opened the screen door and stepped out.

"You are? You're different than what I imagined." Jenny holds out her hand.

"Nice to meet you." Brian gave her one of his warm, friendly smile.

"Listen, I'm sorry about..."

"It's okay, don't worry about it." Brian shrugged and that's when Jenny felt a strange attraction towards Brian, her sister's boyfriend.

On the other hand, Brian was amazed at her shy, sweet tone of voice and her big, dark brown eyes. Brian had an urge of taking her into his arms and never let go, but his conscious stopped him.

"You okay?" Jenny asked, Brian was biting his bottom lip unconsciously.

"Yeah, I'm fine." Brian replied, tasting the salty sweet blood in his mouth, he realized it's going to be hard to be around Jenny.

"You sure? You're bleeding." Jenny reached over to wipe the blood off Brian's chin.

"I'm fine. Really!" He took a few steps back, kicking over the flowerpot. "I'm so sorry. I'll pay for that if you want me to, of course you want me to, I'm such a klutz, I keep mess things up." It just blurred out Brian's mouth! He couldn't get rid of that nervous feeling that's in his stomach.

"I see you two have already met." The both jumped as Angela entered the backyard.

"Yeah, nice meeting you. I gotta go to my room and write my report. Bye." Jenny basically ran back to her room.

*~*

Sitting in her room, Jenny couldn't get the image of Brian out her head, the tenderness in his eyes, the sweetness in his voice, and the truthfulness on his face seemed like he was a guy you could depend on, no matter what happens.

"What's wrong with me?" Jenny asked herself, a feeling of jealousy floated into her mind, jealous of her own sister!

"May I come in?" Angela knocked on the door gently. She was worried when Jenny ran off which was why she came up to her room. Jenny slowly nodded then Angela sat down next to her on the bed. "So?"

"So what?" Jenny replied, sounding annoyed.

"Brian? What do you think?"

Jenny let out a heavy before she answered her sister's question. "He seems nice, great personality, you two make a nice couple!" Jenny bit her lips as she felt jealousy rushing through her again. She knew it's not right, but she couldn't help it.

"You okay? You look pale." Angela put her hand on her sister's shoulder, wanting to know what's weighting on her mind.

"Leave me alone!" Jenny slapped off Angela's hand and exited the room furiously.

*~*

"I knew I'd find you here." Brian smiles as he sees Jenny sitting on the front porch. He had went upstairs too after seeing Jenny storming off outside. Angela told him what happened and here he was!

"Hey."

"Hey, so, what's going on?" Brian asked.

"Nothing, just a little tired, you know?" Jenny replied, knowing that it's a lie.

"You sure? Something's troubling you." Brian gave her a supportive pat on the shoulder.

"Yeah, listen, I have to talk to you, it's about...it's about you." Jenny managed to say.

"What? Did I do something wrong?" Brian got all tensed up at Jenny's words.

"No, it's just...never mind. Let's go in, it's getting chilly out here." Jenny stood up, rubbing her hands up and down her arms.

"Wait, you can tell me, I'm here for you." Brian held her back.

"You can help me? How? So are you a saint?" Jenny snapped. It was the only way she knew to hide her feelings from him.

"No, I'm trying to help you, if there's something troubling you, you can feel free to tell me!" Brian was getting impatient as he tightened his grip on her arm.

"Don't be so sweet, you're making it harder for me..." Tears were rolling down Jenny's face, she can't hold them back any longer.

"I'm sorry..." A wave of emotions came over Brian; regrets, love, shame, and even betrayal. He pulled Jenny into his arms, kissing the tears off her cheek, slowly trailed down to her lips.

"Brian..." She whispered, Brian's lips captured hers before another word came out her mouth.

*~*

"Brian? Is everything okay? I heard..." Angela's mind went blank as she saw kissing couple on the porch. "I wish I was blind!"

"Angela, I...it was an accident...I..." Jenny and Brian pulled away from each other as they stammered out.

"What kind of accident? He tripped and falls on your lips? Or you suddenly had an heart attack and he was doing CPR?"

"No...I..." Jenny opened her mouth, trying to explain.

"Brian, I think you should go, and Jenny, can I talk to you?" Angela turned and walked back to the house, letting them know that it wasn't a request, it was an order or a warning even.

"I guess I should go." Brian finally said after staring at the door for a few seconds, he couldn't believe Angela just took off like that.

"I'll be okay, bye." Without looking back, Jenny returned to the house.

Brian let out a heavy sigh of depress and frustration as he started his car and sped off.

*~*

"May I come in?" Jenny knocked on the door gently.

"Yeah." Angela replied, putting down a picture of Brian and me on the nightstand.

"I'm sorry! It was an..." Remembering what Angela said last time when she mentions the word 'accident', Jenny closed her mouth unconsciously.

"Sit down, Jenny, I need to talk to you..."

"I'm sorry! I promise it will never happen again!" Jenny burst out after a long while of silence that almost drove her crazy.

"Do you remember when we were little? I would always give you the bigger part of the cake, the better dolls and stick up for you? Those good old day." Angela sighed; Jenny stared at her sister in disbelief.

"Angela! Please, yell at me, scream at me, and hit me for all I care. Don't just sit there like it's nothing concern you and bringing up our childhood trying to make me feel guilty!" Jenny jumped up and started to pacing around the room.

"I'm not upset, hurt maybe, but never upset. You're my sister, the only sister I ever have; I could never hate you or get upset with you." Angela said, although in she meant every word by heart, her tone sounded sarcastic and hateful.

"Angel? What happened to you? Why are you behaving like this?" Jenny stumbled backwards to the door.

"Why? I'll tell you why, because my sister just decide to kiss my boyfriend out of the blue!" She stared at Jenny like a wild animal looking at its prey.

"I'm sorry!" Jenny sobbed as she ran out the room.

"I'm sorry too..." Angela whispered to the tightly shut door. Slowly, she climbed on the bed and pulled the blanket over me. Wishing it was only a terrible dream and by the time she wake up, everything will be just like the way it was, Angela drifted off to sleep.

"Where's my breakfast?" Angela rubbed her eyes as she walked in the kitchen.

"Hi. Brian. Didn't expect to see you here." She choked out when she was greeted by Brian sitting at the table.

"Hi... can I have a word with you? Well, maybe more than a word." Brian managed to squeeze out a smile.

"Sure."

"Okay." Brian replied. Soon, the room was filled with nervousness and awkward.

"So... are you here to see Jenny?"

"No, like I said, I wanted to talk to you."

"About what?"

"About what happened... I'm truly sorry, but I don't think that we should go on like this... I know that we can pretend that it never happened, but it did and there's nothing you or me can do to change that. I think you should tell Jenny that I'm sorry."

"No, you shouldn't. I mean, if it's over between us, then I think it's totally okay for you to go out with her. I did some thinking this morning. And I realized that we were more like best friends than a couple, and Jenny is the one for you."

"But..." He muttered.

"Are we still friends?" She hold out her hand.

"Always." A relieved smile appeared on his face as he shook her hand and pulled her in for a hug. "Thank you."

"What for? You're my best friend" Angela laughed.

"What's going on here?" They turned at the sound of Jenny's voice. "Did you have fun playing with my feelings?" She confronted Brian.

"I didn't..." Brian started, but Jenny cut him off.

"Don't bother, I don't want to hear it, in fact, I don't even want to see you!" Jenny dashed out the room while stifling a cry. Brian stood there for a moment then bolted out the room after her.

*~*

"Where can she be?" Brian asked himself as he drove around the neighborhood, suddenly, the sight of Jenny came into his view, she was sitting on the swing in the park nearby. Slamming on the brake, Brian jumped out the car and ran as fast as he could to the girl of his dreams.

"What are you doing here?" Jenny said coldly.

"I'm here because I want to tell you the truth." Brian sighed and sat down to the swing next to her.

"Why don't you save your lies for someone else?" Jenny whispered through gritted teeth, trying to control her pain and emotions.

"I'll never lie to you, ever."

"Sure you won't. Care to explain your action this morning then?"

"I gave Angie a hug, because we finally cleared things up, and that hug meant friendship, nothing more."

"Why should I believe you?"

"You don't have to, but please." Jenny looked deep into Brian's eyes, battling with herself whether she should forgive him or not. She saw honesty, caring, and truth in Brian's eyes.

"Okay, I believe you." Jenny sighed as she planted a kiss on Brian's forehead. Brian smiled while tucking Jenny's brown hair behind her ear and wiped the tears off her face as he took her hand into his and walked back to his car, side by side...
