Chapter 6
"Hey, Faith, what’s up? You don’t look that good."
"Thanks Chrissie, that’s really kind of you. I just didn’t sleep that well, that’s all." "He didn’t call?" She knew the answer, why did she have to ask it every single day?
"No C., satisfied?"
"Ooh, what are we in a good mood today."
"Just leave me alone, okay?" I ran upstairs and locked the door. I leaned against the door and just wanted to forget everything.
It’s so easy to say, but how can I forget Nick? He was my love; he was my life… And now it’s all over. I don’t even hear his voice every day. The last time was a month ago. He knew my number so he could reach me, I called him a couple of times in the beginning, but I don’t keep doing that.
When will he call, or maybe will he call? I heard Chrissie coming upstairs. She went sitting on the other site of the door. I just listened.
"Faith, look at what you’re doing to yourself. Nick is just destroying your life. You don’t go out anymore, you just stay home, because he might call you… You’re throwing your life away for him. Think about it, that’s all I ask from you…" And after that she went away.
It’s all worth it, I said to myself, but after a couple of days, when he still hasn’t call, I thought again about what Chrissie had said to me. Maybe she is right, maybe Nick is destroying my life…
I walked to the phone and dialed Nick’s number. He didn’t answer it and I left him a message, maybe he’ll call me now and if he doesn’t… well, then that’s the end of ‘us’… I went back to my room and just at that moment Chrissie came home.
I ran down and said. "Guess what…" She didn’t really follow me at that moment so I went on.
"I called Nick and told him it was his last chance, if he doesn’t call it’s over…. Do you think he’ll answer my call?" Chrissie didn’t know what to say, and you could see that very clear at her face.
This was something she didn’t expect me to do. And now I did, and believe it or not, but I already regretted it.
What if he didn’t call? I can’t just leave him. Chrissie saw I was having doubts "He’ll call you, don’t worry." And she walked to me to hug me. I felt the tears coming up in my eyes and they just fell. It felt like we already broke up…
