Angela felt like she was floating in the air, a pair of strong arms underneath her, supporting her, protecting her, fighting back all her fears. She rested her head on Nick’s chest; it felt so good to be in someone’s arms again. But it was all over when Nick tucked her in bed.
“Don’t go!” Angela reached out, searching for him.
“I’m right here, I’m not going anywhere.” Nick sat down on the edge of the bed. Removing a streak of black hair from her face, he studied the girl lying on the bed. So helpless, he wanted to protect her. Under the dimmed light, Nick’s heart jumped as his eyes widen with surprise when he finally saw her face clearly for the first time. She looked exactly like Michele!
“Does she have to make a scene?” AJ complained as he rubbed his temples with his hands. Kevin sighed and signaled Brian to come over as he saw Brian at the stairs.
“What is it?” Brian asked, curiously. Kevin took a long breath then he began to tell them what happened after the night Angela’s mom passed away.
“No, it can’t be!” Nick’s mind told him, but his heart said the opposite. “Michele?” Nick whispered, ran his finger across Angela’s face.
The girl stirred, opening her eyes sleepily. “What?”
“Nothing, goodnight.” Nick said, leaving the room. Angela closed her eyes again, she really needed some rest.
“It can’t be, she’s not Michele. She’s just someone that looks like her that’s all.” Nick sat down on the floor, trying to think logically. But he couldn’t, he missed Michele so much! He dug his fingers into his blonde hair, pushing the image of Angela out of his head.
“You okay?” Kevin asked, concerned.
“Your friend, she looks like...she looks like Michele.”
“What?”
“You know, identical.” Nick explained, sounding clearly annoyed.
“Shh...” Kevin signaled him to lower his voice. “I’m sorry.” Kevin apologized.
“What are you sorry for? It’s okay. It just caught me off guard that’s all.” Nick said as he jumped to his feet and headed to his room.
“Hey, Nick, don’t be late!” Kevin reminded him. Nick ignored Kevin as he went into his room.
“She’s not Michele.” Nick told himself over and over as he lay down. As soon as he changed into T-shirt and boxers, exhaustion overwhelmed him and the moment his head touched the pillow, he fell deep asleep.
