“What is the meaning of this?” Alexander shouted, pointing accusingly at Lilyanna.
“I can explain.” Elizabeth murmured quietly.
“You better!” Alexander threatened as he sat down next to the fireplace.
Lilyanna was brought back to the castle in a carriage with Elizabeth. Once they got back, Elizabeth ordered a warm bath for her, which gave her a better look at the scar on her shoulder. It had became crooked and stretched from her growth, but the lily was still visible. Gloria had helped her match the scar to the ring, a perfect match.
Now, changed into a cotton dress, Lilyanna stood by the table, waiting to hear an explanation concerning her identity. While they were in the carriage, Elizabeth did nothing except weeping and constantly repeating the phrase I’m sorry to Lilyanna. Now her curiosity must be satisfied.
“You, Lilyanna, are my daughter. The forth princess.” Elizabeth started.
“Then I’m Nicholas’ sister?”
“Then what of Nicholas? I don’t remember you pregnant.” Alexander and Lilyanna asked at the same time. Then a look of horror began to form in Alexander’s eyes, a thought too frightful to be thinking of formed in his brain.
But Lilyanna hadn’t caught on yet. “Is Nicholas my brother?” She asked again.
“No, you two are not related.” Elizabeth told her recently found daughter quietly.
“Tell me you’re joking! Tell me this witch had clouded your mid with her magic too!”
“She’s not joking! I was there. I switched the two babies myself.” Gloria stated; she was in the corner of the room; no one knew when she had entered.
“Silent! This is insanity!”
“I have proof.” Elizabeth took out the ring, the one that branded Lilyanna on the shoulder.
“A ring?” Alexander shot her a suspicious glare.
“I burned the mark on the child’s shoulder before I gave her away. And I checked it myself. She’s our daughter!” Elizabeth cried out.
“Nicholas isn’t my son? It can’t be. He’s my pride and joy! He is not a fraud and he was not a substitute for her.” Alexander muttered to himself in disbelief.
“Me? Princess?” Lilyanna questioned, clearly in a daze of her new identity. She was no longer a peasant, but a royalty! At the same time, she couldn’t help but wonder about Nicholas, if he had taken her place, then now it’s restored to her, what will happen to him?
“Yes, a princess, our daughter.” Elizabeth crooned.
“I hadn’t agree to that yet.” Alexander added. He was beginning to accept the idea, but not quite believing it. “Leave us. We need to talk alone.” He ordered and Lilyanna and Gloria complied.
Once out the room, Lilyanna rushed off to find Nicholas. She needed to share this news with someone, and the only person needed to know the most and was involved the most beside her would be him.
