Chapter Seventeen

“I can’t believe it.” She heard Nicholas whispered.

“Neither can I, this must be a dream, it has to be.” Lilyanna looked up the sky, now colored by the sunset. Purple, orange and red spilled over the once blue sky.

“Then I’m in your dream, or you in mine.” Nicholas laughed as he pulled her into his arms. He was beginning to get over the shock and was able to accept the truth. And at that moment, he understood the way fate works, she had used her magical and invisible hands to connect them in the most unimaginable way possible.

“How strange this is. But I’ve never felt more alone than I do right now.” She sighed quietly against Nicholas’ hard chest, listening to his heartbeat, but feeling as if he was thousands of miles away. The truth still held its effect in her, in less than a year, she had lost her only family, fell in love with a prince who turned out to be someone that had taken her righteous place, which would mean, she was a princess.

“Listen to me.” Nicholas spanned her around to face him, cradling her pure and exquisite feature in the palm of his hands. “Even when the stars and the moon sank to the bottom of the ocean, the sun not longer shine and hell freezes over, you’ll never be alone! You’ll always have me! No matter what.” He said all this with a faint glimmer of promise in his eyes, reassuring her that what he told her was the truth and he would keep that promise for as long as he lives.

“Nicholas!” Lilyanna cried out, burying her head in the crook of his neck. Yes, how could she forget him? The only person showed her love and care, the only person she could turn to and the one and only that she gave her heart to, completely.

Listening to their conversion, Elizabeth felt her heart twist, twist until it was shaking in pain. Without thinking, she flew from her hiding spot and threw her arms around the star-crossed lover. “This is all my fault. My fault.” She sobbed. “As a mother, I abandoned you in order to keep myself safe and alive, then when I finally get to meet you, I turned you down and filed the tender feeling I felt when I touched you as nothing. And to you, Nicholas.” She looked up and she was met with a pair of blue eyes, shining like the sea. “I lied to you all along, I refused your plea just so I can save myself, again.”

“It wasn’t your fault.” Lilyanna sniffed, this was her mother, the mother she thought she had lost since birth, and she had blamed herself for her mother’s death, due to giving birth to her. Now she found her real mother, and she wasn’t going to start this new relationship with blaming and anger.

“Yes it was! I wouldn’t protect you when I can, I didn’t fulfill my duty as a mother! I’m nothing but a coward! But now, I swear to the heaven, I’ll do my best to protect you from any harm possible, even if it meant to give up my life! I love you, both of you! Nicholas, you were always like a son to me, always!” Elizabeth wept and hugged them tighter, wanting to savor this moment forever. For tomorrow was still unknown.
