Chapter 4

Mark pulled up in front of Emma’s flat in her silver BMW but didn’t make a move to get out of the car after he switched off the engine. He was naturally upset about Shane’s accident yet relieved that he woke up. But what was this feeling that he had for his best friend? Something inside him ached for her; he wasn’t sure just what it was. He felt guilty for not keeping in touch with Emma. The past few years had been a wild ride. If you heard Imaginary Diva, Mark had written that after having a dream about Emma, which prompted him to write the lyrics. He used Imaginary Diva as her alias so no one knew who this “diva” was.

He looked up into the sky which the stars were appearing, twinkling in the night. It reminded him of that night he had with Emma the last time he saw her. He was shy around her that time so he pretended to be drunk and searched for her. She was standing on Cliff Top. He sucked in a breath when he watched a soft smile on her face with her eyes closed. The gentle breeze blew her long hair softly. He stumbled over causing Emma to turn around, startled. She gasped when she saw Mark seemingly drunk. She rushed to help him up.

----

*Flashback*

“Mark you’re drunk. Yeugh.”

Mark let out a laugh as his blue eyes twinkled in amusement as he watched Emma wrinkle her nose up. He tweaked it which caused her to roll her eyes; she sat him down and proceeded to do so herself. She sighed enjoying the gentle breeze as the moonlight shone down the friends. Mark just simply stared and felt himself chickening out when he scolded himself mentally.

(No! I have to do this.)

Earlier he had drunk a bottle of beer so Emma would smell the alcohol on his breath; he wasn’t actually drunk, he just pretended to be. Mark reached out and tucked her hair behind her left ear. He told her that he really loved her. She looked at him with her eyebrows raised. She simply brushed it off saying he was drunk. But Mark wouldn’t give up so he leaned forward and pressed his lips onto hers. He felt her stiffen in shock and felt her hands on his chest intending to push away. No way, are you gonna push me away. Mark held Emma closer as he begged entrance to her mouth. She moaned, giving into the kiss that Mark was giving her. It started slow and sensual until it grew to a passionate kiss. Emma could taste the alcohol but didn’t care, she was being kissed and all that mattered to her.

One thing led to another as Emma felt Mark laying her onto the cool grass. They took the ride to heaven and back as the stars and the moon bathed the lovers with their kisses. Emma felt mortified as she woke up in Mark’s arms the next day. She had taken advantage of him in his drunken state. She prayed that he wouldn’t remember anything as she got dressed. Quickly making her way to her car, she got a blanket and covered Mark to keep him warm and left to go take a shower at home where she lived with her parents.

Mark woke up shortly and noticed Emma had left. He felt guilty, things hadn’t meant to go that far. He had only wanted to kiss her but he was caught up in the moment. He also knew that Emma would feel the same so he pretended not to remember much to her relief when she asked him a while later if he had remembered. But then he had to leave everyone as he made it into pop stardom. He had been signed up by Louis Walsh with four others, one of which was Shane, Emma’s brother. He left, never contacted Emma until now. *End Flashback*

------

Mark pulled out Emma’s car keys out of the ignition and made his way back into her flat after locking shut her car door. He saw her lying on the couch, curled up into a ball wearing her long white bathrobe, sleeping. He made his way over to her and picked her up into his arms, carrying her to her bedroom. He then laid her onto her bed, covering her. He kissed her forehead and switched the light off as he climbed onto the couch falling into a restless sleep.
