Chapter 8

Kian had admiration for her, the way that she had to cope with everything when he left with the others. He knew that Emma’s daughter wasn’t his because they had never gotten that far as that. He kind of suspected that Mark was the father. It was obvious that Emma and Mark had feelings for each other, they were dense enough to know how deep their feelings ran for each other. Kian remembered that Mark had gotten drunk one night and overheard his confession to Nicky. To say that he was stunned was an understatement, but he was also furious with Mark for using her.

“Mark doesn’t know does he?”

Emma looked surprised that Kian had guessed right. She must have looked dense; she blushed at the thought of sharing such an intimate thing with her ex boyfriend. He didn’t seem to mind – he was grinning like a chesire cat. He laughed at Emma’s expression of a goldfish. He knew the answer by the look of her horrified expression in her eyes. After that, the pair chatted, catching up with each other as they each told another their memories of their recent years of their lives – some good some bad. Kian was surprised to hear from Emma that her parents had kicked her out when she fell pregnant. They disapproved of it and Emma rebelled thus causing her to be thrown out. It wasn’t a big deal. Big deal my ass!

“Em, you got KICKED out of your own home. I’m surprised your parents did that, considering you’re their baby.”

“Shane’s their baby, Ki. Not me.”

Kian knew what she had meant by that comment. Shane was the one that was always fussed about and had the most attention on him. Their parents never had time for Emma. She suspected that she was a mistake, which had hurt her. Shane however was fussing over his baby sister when she was born. He was pleased to have someone younger than him so he could be protective over with. It was no surprise to any friends who were Shane’s or Emma's that the siblings were practically joined at the hip. Emma remembered that Shay used to come home after horse riding all excited. She asked him what it was like. He dragged her to his next lesson demanding that she had the right to learn how to ride. It was important to Shane that his little sister was happy. It still was now. The siblings had always put each other first and would always will.

Sometimes Emma had wondered if her parents and siblings had fussed over Shane just because he was rich and was in a famous band. It didn’t make any different to her because he was still the Shay she knew and would always be. He was her older brother after all. Sometimes people would ask her what it was like to have a famous brother. She would just simply smile and say that she was happy for him because he was living his dream. She only wanted Shay to be happy – as long as he was so was she.

Kian turned his head to the right, looking at Emma biting her lower lip, he knew that she was in deep thought. He called her name breaking her train of thought. It was apparent that she was distracted. He waved his hand in front of her face before she went to lala land again. He asked her if he could meet Amber properly. Emma gave him a soft smile and nodded her approval. He stood up from the bench stretching his muscles before lending a hand to Emma. She took it smiling as they both made their way towards the hospital.
