TORONTO, May 3, 2001 (CTV) - In the dramatic season finale of "ER" a distraught father goes on a murderous shooting spree. The ER is overwhelmed. And "CANADA AM" has an exclusive backstage pass to the action. From FRIDAY, MAY 11 to THURSDAY, MAY 17 "Canada AM" presents the exclusive series. Visit television’s most famous emergency room and see the only footage available on the exciting season finale. Dr. Marla Shapiro, AM's health and medical contributor, reports from the series’ set in L.A., with star interviews including: Anthony Edwards (Dr. Mark Greene) in his first television interview in more than a year; and, newcomer Erik Palladino (Dr. Dave Malucci), who discusses the medical authenticity of the show and the challenges of learning lines that are jam-packed with medical terminology. Shapiro tours the set with Dr. Fred Einesman, the show’s medical supervisor, whose job it is to make sure the script and the show are realistic. "The set was so authentic I felt like I was in a hospital," says Shapiro. "The only thing missing was the antiseptic smell." A Canadian export, Einesman studied medicine at McGill University with Shapiro. THE 5-PART SERIES FRIDAY, MAY 11 "Centre of the Action": Einesman takes Shapiro on a tour of the set. MONDAY, MAY 14 "The New Guy": Shapiro sits down with Erik Palladino who plays rebellious second-year resident Dr. Malucci. Having just joined this season, he talks about catching up to the cast, taking a moment out to show his medical prowess and comfort with the lingo. TUESDAY, MAY 15 "The Canadian Connection": Sitting in the heart of the action, Shapiro and Einesman talk about the challenges of keeping the show as accurate as possible. They are joined by Scott Gemmill, the supervising producer who is a Fort Erie, Ont. native, who talks about tackling the technical aspects of the show and weaving it into the storyline. Both share the stories of how they got to "ER". WEDNESDAY, MAY 16 "The Veteran": Exclusive interview with Anthony Edwards on how his character has evolved from playing doctor to patient this year; on the show’s enduring appeal with millions of viewers; and working with his favourite charity, "Cure Autism Now". THURSDAY, MAY 17 "Rampage" - the season finale: "AM" has exclusive behind-the-scenes footage including clips from tonight's show. Dr. Einesman leaves viewers with a set-up of the dramatic, trauma-packed season finale. Dr. Shapiro studied medicine at McGill University. She is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Toronto. In addition to her full-time private practice, she appears weekly on "Canada AM" as the show’s health and medical contributor. |
