Martin talks about...
I interviewed Martin about The Strollers, his musical influences and his
new band Penny Arcade. Thanks a lot, Martin!
Martin:
"When it comes to the split-up of the Strollers I can only talk for
myself and how I felt about the situation. I think all the guys felt sort
of tired with the band and some of the members werenLt getting along to
well, I guess. Kahlin was the first to go, I canLt really say if he was
fired or just wanted out. We played a couple of gigs with Joakim Dimberg
( from the Roadrunners)but I was gettinLpretty tired of the whole situation.
I think there were some different opinions when it comes down to
the music as well. We were sort of tired of the music we were playing and
wanted to go different ways. Even if the band hadnLt called it a day Im
pretty sure it wouldnLt sound like the "old" Strollers."
Martin:
"I quit the band cause I wanted to play guitar and sing, which I had wanted for a pretty long time. And I must say ILm glad I did. After that I think the rest of the Strollers boys wanted to get rid of Joakim cause he was gettinLreally crazy and somewhat dangerous. Mathias and Henrik had some plans for a while but nothing really happend and Henrik joined the Peepshows. I still see the other guys once in a while and ILm getting along with them all. ThereLs no hard feelings, at least not from my side."
Martin:
"In case of the music I like alot of stuff. In the Strollers we began with
brittish 60Ls band like Rolling Stones, Kinks, Yardbirds and so on. Soon
we discovered american 60Ls punk and for a long time the "back fom
the grave" records were my favourites along with bands as the Seeds
and the Sonics. I still like all the music I listened to back then but I'm not as close-minded
nowadays."
Martin:
"ItLs kinda hard to describe our sound. All four of the members write
the material and we all have sort of diffrent backgrounds. Were not a stricktly
60Ls garageband our influence comes from a lot of diffrent band and artists.
Just to mention a few: Rolling Stones, Roky Erickson, FlaminLGroovies,
Stooges, Bob Dylan, Third Bardo, HowlinLWolf, Johnny Thunders etc."
Martin:
"Penny Arcade doesnLt really have a deeper meaning but I think there
was a N.Y. groupie who used to go by that name, as well."
