2 - Mary Hancock was born 7 Dec 1830 and died 8 Jan 1909. She married Samuel Hamilton in 1846. Samuel was born 22 Nov 1817 and died 24 Aug 1874 in Pulaski Co., MO. He was the son of James Hamilton and Mary Stewart. They had 11 children.
3 - James Anderson Hancock was born 23 Dec 1833 in Grainger TN and died 5 Mar 1918 in Placerville, El Dorado Co., CA. He married Sarah Mahulda Decker in 1855. Sarah was born 25 Dec 1834 in KY and died 6 Mar 1921 in Placerville. They had 4 children.
James Anderson Hancock and wife Sarah Mahulda "Hulda" Decker left Pulaski Co., Missouri soon after their marriage. They went to Placerville California during gold mining days. He bought gold mines along the American River fron disillusioned miners and soon had a lot of land. Most of the land was north of Placerville. He had a large home in Placerville. Relatives that visited in California said his door stops were chunks of gold. James Anderson and his son Jasper worked in Hydraulic mining at Union Ridge.
4 - Wade Hancock was born in 1834 in AL.
He may have gone with James to CA. A directory of the city of Placerville, published in 1862, states that a WV Hancock was living in Placerville and boarded at the Cedar Ravine Hotel. He was a carpenter.
5 - Newton Jasper Hancock was born 4 May 1836 in AL and died 9 Jul 1909. He married 1st Rebecca Underwood, born in 1837, 2nd Jeremia Allen, and 3rd in 1857 Melissa Withers, born 25 May 1839 in KY and died 15 Jan 1895. She was the daughter of John and Mary Withers. They had 7 children.
6 - Gilbert Hancock was born 11 Feb 1837 and died 21 Jan 1904. He married 1st Perlitt Emoline Jennings, born 10 May 1839 and died 26 Feb 1880, and 2nd Elizabeth Withers, born 15 Sep 1842 and died 30 Mar 1860. Between the two wives, he had at least 11 children.
Gilbert Hancock was a farmer. He was described as having blue eyes, light hair height 5ft. 9in. Gilbert and his family lived in the area near the Old Hamilton school house. The house where they lived is still standing but no one lives there. He also farmed some land near the Gasconade River. Gilbert could be heard from his home to his river farm. He let his horses run on the range, then about 3 or 4 o'clock in the morning he would start calling and hunting his horses to be ready to go to work in the morning. During the Civil War, a man came to his house and put a rope around his necka s if to hang him, supposedly because he had not gone into the army. After that, Gilbert went to Rolla and enlisted in the Union Army as a Pvt. Co. A, 48 Regt. of MO. Inf. on 4 Dec 1864. He later transferred to Pvt. Co. E, 50 Regt. of the MO. Inf., 26 June 1865. He was mustered out 11 Aug 1865 at Benton Barracks MO. He returned home and continued his occupation of farming. Some years after the war he attended an encampment in Iberia. There he met a man, who had also joined the Union Army, who put out his hand to shake with Gilbert. Later Gilbert would tell his son that he never hated to shake hands with someone so bad in his life, but decided the war was over and they might as well be friends. This man was the one who had put the rope around his neck.
7 - Missouri Ann Hancock was born 19 Aug 1841 and died 17 Oct 1917. She married 1st 10 Apr 1856 James Nathaniel Routh, born 16 Feb 1831 in Floyd Co., IN and died 5 Oct 1914 in Dixon MO. They had 2 children. Missouri Ann married 2nd 25 Feb 1879 in Hancock Co., MO John Kibel Brittian, born 10 Nov 1835 and died 16 Oct 1871. They had 6 children.
Missouri Ann Hancock and John Kibel Brittian lived on a farm. John died and left Missouri Ann a widow at an early age. Two of their children died young. She spent some of her last days in the homes of her children. Some of her grandchildren stayed with her when she was still in her home.
8 - Isabella Martha Hancock was born 27 Apr 1844 and died 10 Jun 1878. She married 1st John D Hill, born in 1846 in MO, and 2nd 2 Feb 1860 William Henry Long, born 21 Jun 1837 and died in 1876. They had 6 children.
Isabelle Hancock and William Henry Long were married in Pulaski Co., Missouri in 1860. They lived on a farm near the Gasconade River in the area of Riddle Bridge. Three of their children died young. They and their parents are buried in Riddle Cemetery, Pulaski Co., Missouri.
