This is an alternate reality fanfic. It takes place in a parallel universe, asking the question "what if things had happened differently?"
Based on the film/comic book 'Spider-Man', Liz Parker is something of an outcast. A gifted science student, but mistreated by her peers. Then, during a freak accident in a science lab, she is bitten by a genetically altered spider. By some miracle, she finds herself posessing the strength, speed, agility of a human spider. As well as an ESP-like 'spider sense' which warns her of danger. Finally, she no longer has to be pushed around. Maybe now she can get Max Evans to notice her.
However, tragedy soon strikes. When something indirectly associated with Max costs Liz something very important to her, her new powers take on a deeper meaning.
Meanwhile, something is up with her best friend Maria DeLuca and her father, Norman. Something that will shake up both Max and Liz's lives beyond anything they ever imagined.
