"Hiei, I—I love you--" Kurama was interrupted when the glass that the fire demon held crashed to the floor. He cursed himself when Hiei ran upstairs to his room.

Kurama had been trying to get Hiei used to the human world and offered him a place to stay at his house. He had hoped that, overtime, Hiei would start to share his same feelings. Apparently he didn’t.

In Kurama’s own room, he sat on the bed, looking out the window at the tree where Hiei sometimes slept on nice nights. He should probably go to his room and apologize. Apologize for what? ‘I’m sorry that I love you?’ The results of that wouldn’t be good.

The next morning, the little fire demon was gone.

*You packed in the morning and I started out the window

and I struggled for something to say.

You left in the rain without closing the door,

I didn’t stand in your way.*

‘He’ll come back,’ Kurama thought. He always did. The Urameshi team had had its share of fights in the past. He hoped that this would all just blow over like the rest. He silently watched the rain fall from the window as he laid on his bed.

*But I miss you more than I missed you before,*

He choked on a sob at the thought that Hiei would never return to him.

*And now where I’ll find comfort, God knows.*

He should have kept quiet, then at least they could still be friends. Yusuke and Kuwabara were off visiting Genkai and Yukina, so he had no one to talk to. He had no idea when they would be back.

It was so quiet in the house with the exception of the rain falling outside. Normally he would be hearing the sounds of Hiei as he attempted to master the art of cooking or him cursing at the can opener like he did last week.

*‘Cause you left me, just when I needed you most.*

The kitsune hadn’t eaten hardly anything for days, spending most of his time watching the never-ending rain fall. He hoped that Hiei wouldn’t do anything foolish, but he also hoped that he wouldn’t just shrug off what had happened.

*Now every morning I stare out the window

and I thing about where you might be.*

He took a letter that was badly folded from his pocket. It was something that he had written, an apology to Hiei. He knew that it would be impossible to send, he had no idea where the fire demon was residing, or even in what world.

*I’ve written you letters that I’d like to send,

if you would just send one to me.*

He looked at it one more time, then threw the letter out the window and watched as the wind and rain carried it away.

Not five minutes later he heard a knock on the door. He slowly walked downstairs to open it up and gasped in shock; it was Hiei!!

He started to run up to give him a hug, but restrained himself. He cautiously looked at the drenched fire demon.

Hiei looked at his feet, shifting between them uncomfortably, then looked up at Kurama’s face. The kitsune wasn’t sure, but he thought that he saw tears in the other’s eyes; it could have just been the rain.

Hiei pulled something from behind his back. "I, um….got your letter…"

THE END!! This was just a little something that my brain thought up with in 20 minutes while listening to a song stuck on repeat.
