Broken Ice

Broken Ice

Note: This is my first attempt to write a Tokiya+Fuuko fic so bear with me...how come I keep asking this things when I start a new anime fic?! I already wrote some fics of other animes, but really, I haven't tried Flame of Recca, so here it is ^_^ Hope you like it. Suggestions, comments or flames can be mailed to me through e-mail.

"Mikagami!" a classmate of Tokiya's called up to him while he was walking home that day. Minoru Shuichi, a guy from his class, which he doesn't exactly call a 'close friend' caught up with him. Tokiya stopped in his tracks and waited for the boy to stand in front of him. Mikagami raised a brow, asking the guy to talk. Shuichi finally caught his breath and started talking. "Yo, Mikagami, have a date yet for the prom dance?" Tokiya just shrugged off the question. Shuichi's shoulders fell. "You're so cold, Tokiya, maybe that's why you don't get any dates" Shuichi said as he walked with him across the street.
"What does that suppose to mean? Anyway, after all, I don't want any date for the dance. I'm not going" he said, as coldly as usual. Shuichi sighed in exasperation.
"Oh alright, you win, but I must say there are a lot of girls interested just in case you change your mind" Shuichi said with a wink. "I better go, Mica is waiting for me, bye!" he said, bidding Tokiya goodbye. The young man just nodded his head and went on his way.

"Alright, Ms. Kirisawa, what do you have to say for yourself?" the school principal asked fuuko who was mumbling remarks at him under her breath. She sighed and glanced at the poor guy beside her who has a black eye on his face. She tried not to supress another laugh at the sight of him.
"That I am sorry I did that to Teicho," she said, taking another glance at the biy beside her. Looking away before she giggles again, she continued, "and that I'll never do it again, Mr. Thai"
"How about you, Teicho? Do you forgive her?" Mr. Thai asked the other student with him this time. Teicho looked at Fuuko.
"I guess so, Mr. Thai" he said with an exasperated sigh. He was then dismissed by the principal. He gestured Fuuko to sit down on one of the seats on his table and talked to her.
"Ms. Kirisawa, this is the third time you've been to my office for these kind of cases. You shouldn't do that to your fellow students you know" he told her. Fuuko just pouted.
"But they started it" she protested. Mr. Thai exhaled loudly.
"Maybe, but that's no excuse for hitting them like that. You're even worse than the guys. Most og the boys here are afraid of you, do you actually like that?" he asked her. Fuuko looked down and thought about it. "I'm telling you, Kirisawa, be more feminine. You have apretty face, don't waste it" he said lastly and gestured her to go as well.

Be more feminine? Yeah, right Fuuko said to herself as she walked on the streets. How dare he say those things to her? She's as feminine as she could ever be, well sort off. But she can't help but think that he was right. Maybe she was kind of rough, but that's her nature. She wondered if it would be better to change her attitude a bit. She kept thinking about this until...
"Watch it!" a voice yelled as she felt herself bump on something. She fell on the ground, taking her things with her. She was then held on by the hand and was pulled up. She looked up at the young man who just bumped into her.
"Mikagami!" she said surprised. She and Tokiya have never seen each other since after the Urabutou Satsoujin. It's been sometime after that and they've gone on their own seperate ways. Fuuko had entered a college while Tokiya entered a different school, but, the same one that Fuuko had entered in this year. "Long time no see!"
"Fuuko?" Mikagami asked, looking at her from head to toe. "You look different" he said. He picked up her things which were dropped ont he ground and handed it to her.
"Thanks. But, was that good or bad?" she asked with a pout. Mikagami shrugged.
"Who cares?" he said blankly and went on his way. Fuuko regained her composure and ran after him.
"Wait! Can I walk with you?" she asked. Tokiya just stared ahead. "You have never changed, Mikagami, you're still the cold Mikagami I knew" she said, tilting her head to the side, just staring at Tokiya. Tokiya furrowed his brows at the comment but didn't say anything.

The next day...
"What?!" Tokiya asked angrily as Shuichi told him the problem.
"Yup. He said it's a requirement to go to the dance, something about social studies or something, I don't know. But, Mr. Takamiya said you're suppose to go or you'll be marked absent and be marked zero too in one of the activites" Shuichi added. Tokiya groaned. He never had an absent in his records, never in his whole life! AND, to add it all up, he never had a zero! But what could he do, either go there and make a fool out of himself or don't go and have his perfect record blown out by a storm. He sighed, half sadly and half frustrated. He guess he needs a date after all.
"But who am I going to take? I'll just look stupid there if I don't bring anyone" he said, frustration in his voice. Shuichi shrugged.
"Maybe one of the girls, I mean, you've got a long line. You don't even to go look for the right one, just choose, ask and I'm sure she'll agree" he said with another wink. Tokiya rolled his eyes and seperated ways with Shuichi, who had a large sweatdrop on his head.

Next day was a Friday, which only gave Tokiya one more day to decide about the upcoming dance for the next day. Walking along the streets again, carrying an umbrella for there was a little drizzle that morning. He passed by some of his classmates and some other students from his school, mostly girls, but none of them suits his taste. In truth, he doesn't even know what his taste is! Maybe someone who could level and catch up with his standards. But until now, even the second student who has almost the same grades as he was were only few. With another groan he continued on his way.

The rain started to fall again. Fuuko ran through the streets, across them and through them again before the rain storms up on her. But, unfortunately for this wind child, the elements were playing with her. The rain and the wind played in harmony, the wind blowing hard and the rain really falling. All wet and drenched, Fuuko seeked for the nearest thign she could get under. She looked around her. There was a covered bus stop nearby so she ran to it. In there, she rubbed herself warm and wind up her hair off the water. It was really cold. It was a good thing fate smiled...sort of. Tokiya Mikagami just stood beside her looking at the wet fuuko beside him.
"What are you doing here?" he asked her. Fuuko looked at him with shivering hands.
"You ask me, I don't know" she said, her voice shaky. Mikagami stared at her and sighed. He opened up his umbrella.
"Come on, let's go over to my house, it's just around the corner. You better dry up before you freeze here and catch a horrible cold" he said leading her out with his umbrella.

They reached Tokiya's pad. He let her in and gave her a towel and some clothes. Fuuko took them as she took a bath. Tokiya prepared some food for them while he waited for her to come out. Fuuko went out with Tokiya's shirt and pajamas.
"Thanks, Mikagami" she said with a sneeze.
"See? Now you're catching cold" he told her. He led her down the couch and covered her with a blanket.
"Of course not, I'm fine" she said, taking the hot mug of chocolate in front of her. She sniffed a bit and drank some, little by little. Tokiya sat down beside her on the other side of the couch and just watched her. That's when an idea struck him, maybe he could take Fuuko as a date. Well, she was in the same school, just a year younger. And she's the only girl he actually talks to. He thought about it, Fuuko in a prom dress? She never even wear something that most girls would. She always dresses plainly, not to girly but not that boyish. And it might be hard keeping up with her. She and Mikagami were, from head to toe, from brains to hearts, well...different, as in opposites. But...it might work.
"Fuuko..." he began. The girl just turned to look at him. "Are you free tomorrow? About...5 in the afternoon?" he asked her. There was a short pause after that.
"Not that I can think of...why?" she asked him. Tokiya shrugged.
"There's this prom dance tomorrow, though I don't really want to go, it's sort of a requirement. So I have no choice. I can't take just any girl there, I'm not that close to them. So maybe I could take you" he told her. Fuuko blushed a slight pink.
"You mean you're asking me to be your date...for tomorrow?" she asked again. Tokiya just nodded.
"Well?"
"I guess" she nodded with a smile. Maybe it would make her something different. After all, she might learn new things being with college sophomores. She sniffed again and gulped up her mug.

This better be worth it Tokiya thought as he waited for Fuuko for almost half an hour. It was quarter to five in the afternoon and he was picking her up from her house so they could go there together. "Fuuko!"
"Coming, I'm almost done!" she replied from upstairs. Tokiya tapped his foot on the floor impatiently. He wasn't a patient person, that's one thing about him. Finally, Fuuko ran downstairs and showed herself to Mikagami.
"How do I look?" she asked. She was wearing a purple, floral dress that extends to some two inches below her knee. She also wore a shoes that suited her dress perfectly, some simple jewels and a light make-up that fits her complexion. She had her hair, which had extended to her shoulders in a half braid. Tokiya couldn't help but see that she was stunning in her attire and complement it.
"You look different, and this time, this is a complement" he said. Fuuko smiled and thanked him. Then they both went to the dance together.

Most eyes turned to the two as they entered the room. Hearthrobe, Tokiya Mikagami is bringing a cute freshman to the dance! The guys couldn't help but notice Fuuko, which made her uncomfortable for a moment.
"I feel ridiculous! Is something wrong with how I look?" she asked her date. Tokiya laughed.
"Don't mind them, the guys here usually does that to a new girl they get interests on" he replied. Fuuko stayed close to Tokiya as much as possible. Once she parted from him, some awful guys who acted like they own the dance would come up to her and start annoying her. It was only a good thing Mikagami was able to take them awaya nd seat himself and Fuuko to one of the tables.
"Why don't we dance, Mikagami?" she asked him. Mikagami tilted his head aside.
"Nah, I don't feel like it" he answered coldy, but that didn't discourage his companion. She stood up and pulled Tokiya's arm.
"Come on!" she insisted. Tokiya stopped himself from being pulled.
"I said 'no'!" he replied back. Fuuko just pulled harder.
"You're arm will break if we continue this!"
"As if I would care"
"I'll create a ruckus here adn I'll blame it on you!" she warned. Tokiya just pulled his arm off her.
"Be my guest" he said, giving her a challenging look. Fuuko returned it and took a deep breath. When she was about to shout something out, Tokiya covered her mouth.
"Alright! You win, come on!" he said and pulled her to the dance floor. He couldn't afford being embarrassed in front of everyone because of his childish date. But, as they reached the floor, the music turned into a slow dance. Fuuko pouted.
"Shucks! Let's just go, I don't like this" she said. She walked away but Tokiya pulled her arm.
"It would be a shame if we don't dance now that we're here. And what wrong? It's just a dance" he said. He reached out for her hand and pulled her to him. Fuuko blushed as Tokiya led her feet to have harmony with his.
"Mikagami..." she called but there was no answer. He just continued on dancing with her, not even a pip came out of him. She could feel his breath on her ears, which gave her the goosebumps. Her blush got deeper as she leaned her head on his shoulder.

On the other hand, Mikagami was drowning himself with her. Her scent filled every inch of his head. His knees were beginning to shake. Suddenly he felt nervous around her. This is ridiculous, it's only Fuuko he told himself. But as Fuuko stirred a bit in his hold, he adjusted himself for her to lean comfortably on him. He felt something different about her. This time, he was seeing her in a new light. She acted different that night. She was more...something not the usual. She was more likeable like this, but it doesn't really say that she wasn't even if she acted different. He would even ask himself if he had feeling for the girl with him now. Her jovial spirit would always...most of the time make him smile, and smiling is one of the hardest things someone could make Mikagami Tokiya do. But she just does it naturally. Fuuko was different from any other girl.

While Mikagami drained himself in thought, the music slowly fades away. Fuuko pulled away with a smile. They went back to their seats. Fuuko glanced at her watch, it's already 10 in the evening.
"Can we go now? I'm tired" she said. Mikagami nodded. He has his attendance recordered already anyway. He led himself and Fuuko out of the school. They stopped by a nearby park for a while. They sat on the grass and took a quick rest.

"You were different tonight, Fuuko. It's not likely of you to be more...like what you are" he said. Fuuko smiled.
"I know. I've been trying to act more feminine now..." she said with a low voice.
"Why? Is something wrong with the old Fuuko?" he asked, looking at her face which was glued on the ground.
"I don't know, but it's like that people can't accept who I am, what I am. I act like a guy at times and other people look down on me, as if I don't feel anything, get hurt or things. It hurts too much when I know that they think of me differently with the others" she explained. Tokiya sighed
"There's nothing wrong with being different. Look at me, others think I'm different from there, but I just ignore them, you won't die from being different. All I could say is just to be yourself and be what you want to be" he said to her. Fuuko just snuggled herself warmer.
"But, that's different. Girls get hurt easily. I may act like a guy but I still have a girl's feelings...though, part of wehat you said was right. I'll try being myself and start looking for who I really am" she replied. Tokiya just listened intently at every word she says...feeling warm and fuzzy all over. As if he was feeling sympathy for his team mate. He seldomly feel sorry for others, especially because they weren't that close to him. But now, Fuuko seemed to just easily slip into him and making herself a part of him. Well, whatever it was, it felt strange to Mikagami.

Tokiya and Fuuko just sat down with silence being an envelope around them. Tokiya felt Fuuko shift closer to him, laying her head on his shoulders. Tokiya didn't seem to mind.
"Fuuko, when you said those things to me, I felt different. How come you're saying them to someone like me?" he asked. Boy, was he getting soft. How come her cared anyway?
"I think you're someone that can be trusted" she replied. Tokiya quirked a brow.
"Trusted? You don't know me that much" he told her. Fuuko shrugged.
"I don't care, I just follow my instincts and feelings. And I think you're a friend, tokiya" she just said a matter-of-factly. She snuggled closer to him. Tokiya shifted closer to her as well. "And you give great advices, Mikagami. So, being cold is what you want yourself to be?"
"No," he replied, shaking his head once. "I want to be someone opposite of what I am right now" he said. Fuuko stared at him.
"What do you mean? Then why don't you be what you want?"
"I can't help it. It's like anger is still forging through my blood, wanting to seek revenge on a dead person for killing my only family left, my sister. Because of it...I can't be what I am supposed to be, and what my sister want me to be" he said, lowering his gaze out of nowhere.
"I think you should get on with your life. You're real nice Tokiya, forget about the past and look ahead. You're a good student, you're loved even though you're not that much of a warm person to others, you have good looks, don't waste yourself. I know you sister would like that" Fuuko said with a smile. Tokiya smiled back. Silence once again, but this time, they welcomed it comfortably. Each felt comfortable with the other, basking at each other's presence. They weren't that distant from each other, they even feel the same way. But after this night, they finally found out what they really need the most. The cold and quiet Tokiya Mikagami had let go of his feelings to someone, helping him let go of the past. Fuuko, on the other hand, had found out more about herself, and more about their mysterious teamate.
