Leo, Toby, and CJ all started to
flag around midnight. Josh and Sam showed no signs of
tiredness, and CJ walked over to them. ‘We’re gonna go.
We’ll see you Monday, okay? Concerned, Sam asked:
‘How are Toby and Leo? Knowing what he meant, CJ
said: ‘They’ll be fine. They’ve got two days to get
over the shock. Josh turned in his seat. ‘This is
a kind of coming out party, just not really.’ CJ
sighed. ‘Goodnight birthday boy.’ ‘Night CJ. Great
dancing, by the way.’ CJ felt herself flushing. ‘It was
Toby’s idea.’ Both men smiled. Sam spoke for both of
them. ‘You looked good together.’ Suddenly CJ was
embarrassed. ‘Okay. We’re gonna go now.’ Leo turned at the
sound of his name. Susanna handed him a small card.
‘Call me. If you want someone to dance with.’ Leo
took the card, looking at it, avoiding her face.
‘Thanks.’ Susanna put a hand on Leo’s arm. ‘It’s okay. I’m used to
being someone else. I’ll do it for you.’ Leo kissed
her gently. ‘It’s okay. I liked it when you were
you.’ ‘Thank you. Goodnight. And be nice to the kids. It’s not
their fault.’ Leo nodded. ‘Yeah, I know. You’ll get
them a cab, right?’ Susanna smiled. ‘I
will.’ To be continued in Part Seven |
