Penningtons, Bradford

Thursday 27th June 2002

After travelling down to Bradford and being fleeced to the tune of £15 - a £3 mark-up for paying on the night is a right rip-off - we were totally pissed off at the support which featured some clown off TV soap Emmerdale on an ego trip - they were utter shite and could well make my top ten worst bands ever seen list.

Another year and The Damned roll on in fine style. Last years Pennington's show was chaotic, exciting and totally fucking brilliant, so I was a bit disappointed to see the barrier at the front this time. Surprising everyone who hadn't seen them yet on this tour they opened with 'Street of Dreams' - an unexpected treat, followed by my own favourite off Grave Disorder 'Amen'. The crowd started to liven up after a few songs, the set being fairly similar to last year until a total shock - 'Under The Floor Again' - a song none of us had heard live before. Then my favourite Damned song of all time 'Ignite' - a true classic.

Rounding off the set as usual with 'Neat, Neat, Neat', the band returned for the triple encore of 'New Rose', 'Eloise' and 'Smash It Up' - where the hell was 'Love Song'? - preceded by the Captain and his banana-up-the-arse trick. A cracking gig, and the sound was just about perfect, especially Sensible's guitar.

Right - I'm off to Newcastle Arena for some more!

Another...

This was the first of many gigs for myself on the summer 2002 tour. Penningtons lies in the heart of Bradford on the ill fated Manningham lane where the Bradford riots took place.

But what a supprise I got when entering the club it was one of the best venues I've been to for a long while (where else would you find a fishing pond in the gents with fish and 4 x chesterfield leather settees and t.v to watch watch was going on on the stage).

The support band were naff but yer gotta start somewhere, the Damned were absolutely awesome, starting with 'Street of Dreams' ending the gig with 'Smash It Up'. I'm not gonna go into too much detail on the set list due to not wanting to spoil it for you who are going to later gigs, but there was a great rendition of 'Under The Floor Again' all in all a great nite out it was nice to meet up with Eloise from the Message Board she was as bubbly as this glass of lambrusco im drinking now, it was the best I've ever seen the Damned ever !! 12/10 keep it up
