Canterbury Festival, Canterbury

Sunday 25th August 2002

What a nice day, nice local brew Cider, nice weather and lots of good bands.

Met Captain for the first time which was nice he was very friendly (he also seemed to enjoy the gig a lot, and commented about the great bands on the bill, Electric Prunes, Love, Pretty Things.....etc)

Some top notch music today including a very impressive set by the Stranglers (as always) the Pretty Things (well impressed with them) and Arthur Lee and Love who blew the place apart..... and on top of all that the Damned who made me goose pimply all over..... set list from what I can remember was as (no order) follows............

Under The Floor Again
Street Of Dreams
I Just Can't Be Happy Today (one of the best versions I've seen live)
She
Song.com
Democracy
Amen
Would You Be So Hot
Neat Neat Neat
New Rose
13th Floor Vendetta
Smash It Up
Eloise
Ignite

There might have been more but I'm a little worse of at the moment, but a good day you should have been there.........over and out.

Thee Crusher

Another...

Is it me or is this band just getting better and better? It seems like all the members are really getting on and a great time was had by all last night.

Really enjoyed the Stranglers and Love too. Shame about the fight during The Damned set, come on, grow up guys, just leave the hot cider alone next time eh?

Seems to me that after 25 years of going to see The Damned this is the most consistently performing line up live. Grave Disorder doesn't go anywhere near realising the potential of this incarnation, good album that it is. Was quite refreshing NOT to hear Love Song!!! 13th Floor Vendetta was great.

The Stranglers had a tough job following the Damned but pulled it off, just. JJ didn't look too interested at first but got into it after 2 or 3 songs. Paul Roberts is a more than adequate replacement for Hugh, far more energised.
