The Ferry, Glasgow
Wednesday 28th August 2002
The venue was an unusual choice and I was interested to see how it would cope with the Damned or the Damned would cope with it.
The ferry ussually plays host to traditional,folk and acoustic music so the PA and the capacity were kind of stretched. Poor old Pinch was stuck under the balcony and Monty behind some speakers because the stage wasn't really big enough (pity cos monty can be entertaining to watch).
The Damned pulled a good crowd, which was good to see.
They Kicked of with Street Of Dreams, I'm a bit fuzzy on the running order of the set but it was roughly as is listed below.
There were a few hitches with the sound which was a pain in the @rse but, for me, it was good to see them. Captain looked the part in his Captains hat (it is a real ferry after all) and Jogging bottoms. Dave was sporting the eye patch, aye aye jim lad and yo ho ho look. Patricia was just sporting. Infact despite the sound troubles they all looked in good spirits.
The Merch stall was kind of stuck out of the way but I found it and introduced myself to Jed...although I didn't hang around for long 'cos you couldn't see the band from there and I didn't want to miss anything. She seems like a really nice person and it was good to meet her. I also had a word with 'Grandpa' the sound man (I don't know his real name or I would use it), wot a 'sound' bloke (pun intended). He had his work cut out but did bloody well...the unsung hero and all that. I think Pinch's photo of him was chosen as a wind up..he doesn't look half as old as some of us at the gig.
So all in all I enjoyed it but hopefully a bigger venue the next time.
Here's a rough set list;
Street
of dreams
Democracy
New Rose
She
Would you be so hot
Just can't be happy

NNN

Under the floor again
