Jilly's
Rockworld, Manchester
Monday
1st July 2002
This was the 5th time I've seen the damned over a 16 year period and they truly rocked tonight.
Opening
with a mighty 'Street Of Dreams' and continuing through plenty of classics
including 'Under The Floor Again' (a real surprise) DV and the gang
were on top form.
The band played for 1&3/4 hours, the sound was magnificent and Sensible's
rendition of 'Happy Talk' was a treat.
The new songs sounded great (usually new tracks don't go down well, but 'Would
You Be So Hot..' was superb).
Finishing up with 'Smash It Up', 'New Rose', 'Eloise'
and a mammoth 'I Feel Alright', I got the bus home, dug out my cds
for the car tomorrow and can't wait to see them again.
The Great Roonini
Another...
Doped up on Lemsip and Anadin I made my way to the Salsbury Pub to meet up with other people on this web site. After introducing myself to 'Gravedigger Bri', 'Curtain Call', Ellie and Kelly I was informed by G.D.B. that in no way was I to pass on my cold to him!!!! Later Claudia, Gerry and 'Love Policeman' arrived and we set about talking all things Damned.
About 9ish and several pints later we thought it might be a good idea to get our arses off to the gig!!
Once inside we paid £2.55 for a poxy can of lager or Guiness no draught beer!! Dog Toffee were just finishing their set and seemed pretty good. Then a little while later the moment we had all been waiting for.....
They flew into 'Street Of Dreams', others including 'Ignite', 'She', 'Democracy', 'Under The Floor Again', 'Neat Neat Neat' (with some punk girl singing along with D.V!!!) soon followed.
Captain was in good form (apart from apparently falling over at the beginning!) He became upset at someone lighting up a fag, "is this f***ing cancer corner" he asked in between calling us all "bastards". Dave sounded as good as ever, couldn't see Pinch (stage too low / me too far back!) Pat looked good and Monty well.... he's just f***ing mad!!!
All too soon they were doing the encore including 'Smash It Up', 'Eloise', and 'I Feel Allright' which lasted about 10 minutes!! (the song not the encore)
All in all a brilliant gig apart from not being able to see properly and the rip off prices

What a shit hole Jillys is!!!. The support band - CRAP - what saw of them.
The gig was full, the Damned were fucking awesome - this is the best I've seen on the the three dates I've done. Sound was very good; good banter with the crowd and Captain. Vanian was a man on a self destruct mission; Pat's Bass was on fire -outstanding - forget Paul 'fuck you I'm off to play with U.F.O.' Gray - she has now in my eyes become best Bass guitarist the Damned have had! Pinchie - boy that dude can make those drums talk (great drumming on 'I Feel Alright')! Monty was wired up to the mains or I think or someone kept ramming a cattle prod up his arse. Captain outstanding guitar work even on the floor (ha ha)
All in all a massive 13/10!
Cant wait for Worcester now...
GRAVEDIGGER BRIAN
Yet Another...
Woohoo,
What can I say what a great night!!! Started off a bit pissed off at paying £2:55 for a can of Red Stripe. Gettin to the front for the entire gig was a bit of a pick-up tho!!!
Couldn't believe how good the sound was for a gig at Jilly's,got a kiss on the hand off Mr Vanian (not going to wash that hand ever again)!!
Managed to meet the band, got to say how really friendly they were and gladly were not up ther own arses, really great mad people can't wait to see them again.
Got some fantastic photo's,anyone wantin' a lasercopy of reprint just send me an e-mail.
