Tuesday 9th December 2003
Hello
all. After not seeing The Damned live for over 20 years, I along with some
enthusiastic Damned fans decided enough was enough - we had to see em!
I told the lads it was a tropical night and we all dressed to the occasion,
loud shirts, pants, garlands the lot, of course I lied!
Good venue with good staff all laughing at our clothes. About three quarters
full when we got in, with the support band thrashing out what I can only describe
as noise. Place filled up a bit more and I made my way to hang on to the mash
pit, needed to hang on!! On came the Damned, and they don't look any different.
Captain in his police uniform, with chants of "Sensible's a Geordie"
, he decieded to comment that it made a refreshing change after twenty odd
years of being called something else!!
First track "Ignite", all went wild down the front, bodies
being thrown into the pit, but all handled with good humour by both the staff
and crowd,. Damned sounded superb, Pinchy sharp on his kit, and cracking bass
from Patrica, who is looking good! Captain, Monty and Dave all on form.
Favorite on the night for me was "Amen", the Captain really
made that special, "Neat Neat neat", "Smash It Up",
"History of the World" and of course "New Rose".
Grave Disorder stuff brilliant with the Captain dedicating "She"
to Patrica, I never stopped dancing. The time went all to quickly after a
good set, and to finish off Captain came over on his way off stage, shook
my hand and commented about my shirt! I was made up.
Cant wait for the next tour.
