KING GEORGE'S HALL - BLACKBURN
Sunday 28th November 2004

I've seen The Damned about 30 times now and I'll say that this wasn't the best gig ever, neither was it the worst. I don't think the band were happy at all with crowd. Pinch asked if 'anybody was out there' as to be honest the crowd were very quiet. The venue was quite full though.

This was AFTER a nasty incident where some idiot threw what appeared to be a full or near full pint of beer at the stage. It hit Dave head on and soaked Cappy pretty bad. Cappy was furious. I've never seen him so angry. I've seen many things thrown at the band over the years but never have they reacted that way. Cappy asked the person to own up. Obviously they didn't. Dave said that if it happened again they'd walk off. However, Cappy was so mad he took his guitar off and walked off stage. At this point I thought it was game over.

Leo got on the mike and asked for calm. He also said that if anything else was thrown the band would go off. During all this Dave stayed in the corner of the stage.

After about 5 mins Cappy returned and the gig resummed but there was an obvious silence between band members and crowd. The crowd were subdued as well. This incident had happened about 5 songs in.

The gig continued but it was a bit down for 5 or so songs. The long version of Looking At You didn't go down well, neither did Magic Potion or Absinthe. My choice would have been Discoman, Nasty or Plan 9 here. After this Dave said we'll play you something you know and they burst into Eloise.

Things got better towards the end and Suzie Lollipop made an appearance on guitar for the encore.

For me personally, I really enjoyed Love Song, Second Time Around and Just Can't Be Happy as an opener. Superb stuff. My Mrs who was with me reckoned it was the best New Rose she'd ever heard. It was a cracker. Melody Lee was also fantastic. I didn't like Curatin Call really. First time I'd heard Jet Boy Jet Girl which was great. Sound was good. A good venue, just spolit by 'that' incident.

Thanks to the roadie, we got a copy of the set list which I'm sure was played in this order. As a result of the farce they didn't play Igniite.

That's it folks. Not the best, not the worst but I'm happy tonight to have seen the best band in whole fackin world. If you're reading this Cappy, no it's ok, I didn't mind you kissing the mrs outside the venue. She was after all the prettiest girl at the gig. Thing is, I wanted a kiss too. Boo Hoo.
