What a night!!.......

It had just about everything... Cracking tunes - a very snotty pot noodled Captain - dodgy guitars - broken drums + ritual destruction of said drum - Then for a finale - carry on Captain S. with help from two birds dressed as plastic Nuns (I think it was the cheeky girls on a night off) with riding crops spanking his arse to Smash (Spank) It Up!!!!!... Oh yes I forgot the drumstick / bottom incident...... Errrrrgh!!!!

I thought the gig in Knaresborough was a corker earlier in the year but this was top drawer..long may it continue

SPUD (Knaresborough, North Yorks)

After seeing one of my all time fav gigs back in July at Bradford Rios, I couldn’t wait to see The Damned again and hoped that they would do a winter tour. MGE 25 was an answer to my prays!!

I had seen them before at the Met a few years ago and remember it being full, again it was reasonably full. The Damned hit the stage about 9.30. Captain told us he had a bad cold, to be fair he looked and sounded terrible! Poor lad... anyway it didn’t effect his playing, it effected his singing a little, but Monty was on hand to beef up the backing harmonies.

They launched into the MGE intro and then Love Song / Second Time Around. The sound out front was good, but the band were struggling on stage, as Pinch said whats the point in doing a sound check, if when the band starts to play, they cant hear! Anyway after a while I think the problems were sorted, it didn’t ruin the gig at all. Captain did keep complaining about not being able to see what he was doing, and kept asking the lighting people to give him more light. I didn’t want to say at the time, cos he seemed to be in a bit of a bad mood, but why didn’t he take his bloody shades off if he couldn’t see!!!

Jet Boy Jet Girl was great again, I must mention the new song ‘Magic potion’ a cover I believe, was brilliant. An instantly likeable song, they should realise it! The band got more into the gig the longer the gig went on. They played for an hour and forty five mins... well there had been a ten minute break when The Captain’s guitar wasn’t working! The roadie ‘Sweetcorn’ bless him, got it sorted in the end. To be honest it added to the gig, it was entertaining as f@ck! The Damned great music, great comedy value!

The spanking vixens joined the band for the encore’ Smash It Up’ it was hilarious, Captains @rse was well red! Pinch then tried to ram a drum stick up Captains bum. The Vixens wouldn’t leave him alone even after the song had finished! Chasing him around the stage, behind the curtain. The crowd loved it, and well after the band had left the stage the crowd still chanted for more... all in all a very entertaining gig, cheers and merry Xmas to you all
