Captain Sensible & Dave Vanian, Middlesborough Town Hall

I don't know how the Damned get better at every gig, especially since they were brilliant the first time I saw them, and this was the sixth. But they were!

Middlesbrough Town Hall resembled a weird goth youth club, since there were 5 other "young" "hip" "good looking" bands on the tour aswell who were not great, especially in comparison! The singer of [spunge] tried to rouse the crowd in a chorus of 'I say Captain you say wot' - I don't think they got it, but they chanted along anyway!

Cap graced the stage in his extremely fashionable Fred Flinstone-style outfit and they were off with a really fresh sounding set, with plenty of new additions which sounded fantastic, such as Melody Lee, Absinthe and Anti-Pope which was dedicated to the original writer of it - my Dad! Stu the new guy was really good, and when Cap was trying to upstage him by standing in front to block him, Dave tied them together with his microphone lead, it was hilarious! The only bad thing was that I couldn't see Monty from where I was standing, as he is now kind of hidden - as my mam (valvicious) put it "to keep him away from the drink" but in fact to keep beer off the keyboard!

You know it's been a great night when you can't hear out of your right ear the next day, so it really was - they are all charming men and lots of fun. It was just bloody brilliant and although I resisted going onstage in the encore to play New Rose - mainly cause I can't yet play it, maybe I will next time!
