STOCKTON FANHS CHAPTER MEETING MINUTES FOR APRIL 2, 2005

PRESIDENT Mel LaGasca called the meeting to order at 10:15am at Dameron Hospital Conference Room B. Anita Bautista, Vice President, also assisted in recording minutes.

Members present were Moreno Balantac, Virginia Navarro, Mary Louise Lopez, Anita Buatista, Virginia Melear, Leatrice Bantillo Perez, Suzanna C. Mangrabong, Dick Teczon Jr. and daughter Stephanie Teczon. Guest Chevy Pineda, Joan Resurrecion, Marinette Mercado, Violet Dutra, and Terri Torres.

Mel LaGasca introduced our Guest Speaker Leatrice B. Perez, who spoke on the topic:  “VOICES” which was part of an oral history project. The book “VOICES” is a collection of short stories of the experiences of early Filipino Pioneers (1900-1950's). Leatrice shared a story written about her husband, Frank Perez, who left the Philippines in 1929 at the age of 16. Frank and Leatrice came to Stockton in 1943 and they will celebrate their 52nd wedding anniversary this year. Leatrice also shared a story of her oldest sister, Angel, who passed away in 2001.

Minutes of the March 5,, 2005, were approved as distributed.

COMMITTEE  REPORTS:

MEMBERSHIP: Violet Dutra sent in the following report:

Note: Of these members, 61 in arrears.

MEMBERSHIP REPORT:

            A short discussion on the possibility of charging a small fee for mail outs, to all past members who are not current on their dues. No formal action on the subject.

WAYS AND MEANS: We need to purchase insurance for the August 20th and October 15th . Mary Louise will secure entertainment, OP(Old Pinoys) for our October event. Dick Teczon is negotiating a price with his brother Danny Teczon band for our August event. We need donations of raffle gifts for each event. We also need to print tickets for the August event soon because we have no scheduled meetings for June & July.

EXHIBIT COMMITTEE: Virgie Melear still checking on putting up a display in the Financial Center Credit Union Lobby. We will work on a display for Little Manila on their April 9th event, at Delta College. Anita Bautista will be in charge of the display for the September 17th Filipino Reunion at the Radisson in Stockton.

BUSSINESS:

A.            Treasurer: Virgie Melear reported:

            (1.)            Stockton Chapter FANHS account's total $11,304.

            (2.)            FANHS National Museum account's total $39,939.

Virgie still waiting for 2005 Membership assessments from FANHS National.

B.            Mel LaGasca mentioned the May 14th Tri-Chapter Potluck Picnic is set. We will need to work on a program for the day.

C.            We need a Recording Secretary ASAP.

D.            Tabled the discussion on the 2006 FANHS Conference in Honolulu, Hi.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

A.            The “Stockton Reunion 2005” will be held Saturday, September 17, 2005 at the Radisson Hotel; 2323 Grand Canal Blvd., Stockton, Ca. Stockton FANHS will be in charge of the Exhibit Committee. Buster Villa and Jim Fontanilla will chair the Golf Tournament. Space is limited to the first 360 persons making reservations.  Deadline is August 10, 2005. The dinner will cost $37/person. Golf is $34 walking and $45 riding, seniors 65 and older will get $6.50 discount. For more information contact Richard Gacer at 2932 Plymouth Rd. Stockton, Ca. 95204 or phone (209) 948-2643.

B.            Mark Quijano and Jennilee Sabado of UPO Kilusan Pilipino were selling tickets to the 9th Annual Pilipino Cultural Night at Raymond Great Hall. They are expecting the attendance of the two performances to be around 600.

C.            It was announced Raymond Canyon (75) passed. He was married to Josie Tenio.

D.            Anita Bautista handed out a flier indicating informal “Story Telling” meetings will be held at 10am, on June 4th and July 2nd, in the Conference room B, Dameron Hospital. Call Anita at (209) 956-1728 for more details.

E.            The Central Valley Chapter of FANHS is planning a picnic at Lake Yosemite in Merced, on Saturday April 30, 2005, from 10am to 5pm. Adults $10 and children 8-12 of age $5.

F.            The United Filipino Youth will host a 50th Anniversary Grand Reunion on May 14, 2005. They are planning a potluck picnic at Oak Grove Regional Park from 12 noon till 6pm.
