Education/Exhibit–Anita Bautista
Anita reported that the Chavez and Weston Ranch libraries will have exhibits about the Arcadia book in May. On June 14, Dawn Mabalon will have a book signing/talk about the Arcadia book at the Chavez library.
Anita has also asked Virgie Melear for an inventory of the chapter’s FANHSing items to sell (books, license plates, hats, etc). We will have a FANHSing table at the May 10 golf tournament.
Historians– Moreno and Deanna Balantac
Deanna announced that the binder is up to date and that she was also given photographs from various people for FANHS events in the past and will add them to the old binders. Members are to make sure they save extra photos and news articles for the Historian binders.
OLD BUSINESS
Filipino-American History 2008 calendars - Anita said that she doesn’t have any more “unclaimed” calendars left. Mel LaGasca has only two left. It is unknown how many Little Manila has left, but it’s probably not too many.
“Filipinos in Stockton” Arcadia Book – The books have been selling well. Letty Perez mentioned that Little Manila was thinking of doing a second run. It was discussed that all the old books should be sold before any new ones were printed. Also, corrections need to be done to the book before any new ones are printed. It was suggested that the publisher might take back the old books if new ones are printed. Anita and Letty will inform Dawn about this.
Bahala Na Anniversary – The anniversary dinner will be held on April 12, and Anita will attend to represent our FANHS chapter. Terri sent in our advertisement and heard that it was received.
Stanford Student Visit – Anita Bautista attended the students’ visit to Stockton at the Daguhoy Lodge on March 24. Along with herself, Letty Perez and Manual Bonzo spoke on the panel for the students. Anita also provided snacks and drinks for the students.
On March 30th, another group (a bus load) from the Pacific School of Religion, came to visit Little Manila and Anita was able to speak about the book and the PBS documentary with them, even though there was very little time.
It was suggested that we need to know about these visits in ample time to prepare a complete panel.
New BUSINESS
FANHS Alaska Conference – Terri announced that she is unable to attend the Alaska conference as previously planned. Buster Villa agreed to take her place on a panel that Art Villarruz has planned to be about FANHS chapters. Terri will let Art know. Buster has also agreed to help Dawn Mabalon on “Authors’ Night” during the conference – to sell the Arcadia books from our inventory. Terri will let Dawn know and also check with her about how the books will make it to Alaska – either mail them to the hotel or through luggage. Terri will let Joan May Cordova know that she is unable to do her planned paper on the anti-miscegenation laws by Anita Bautista.
Mel announced that he would run again for Trustee, since his term is up this year, but he is unable to attend the conference.
Stockton members known to be attending the conference are Buster Villa, Moreno and Deanna Balantac, and Aileen Boyer and her two children, Jamison and Heather.
Meeting adjourned at 11:05AM. Museum meeting immediately followed.
Next meeting will be May 3, 2008 at the Dameron Hospital Annex building at 10AM.
