STOCKTON FANHS MEETING MINUTES FOR DEC. 10, 2005

By Terri Torres

Meeting was held after the Christmas party at the home of Virginia Navarro. Besides Virginia, in attendance were Anita Bautista, Mary Louise Lopez, Mel and Gail LaGasca, Violet Dutra, Terri Torres, Dick and Betty Teczon Jr., Stephanie Teczon with son and daughter, Frank and Lupe Tibon, Jerry and Eleanor Paular, Virgie Melear, and Letty Perez. Prior to the meeting other members were in attendance but had to leave early - Robert and Kristin Cabigas, Aileen Boyer and her son, Jamison Boyer, and her mother, Eudosia Juanitas. The UOP Kilusan students also were at the party earlier, serenading the group with Christmas carols. We “passed the hat” to give the students a tip for their serenade.

Anita Bautista called the meeting to order at 2:10pm, as Mel LaGasca had not yet arrived.

Minutes from the November meeting were approved as distributed.

Topics included:

Festival of Trees: We decorated a Christmas tree for San Joaquin County Historical Society's Festival of Trees held annually at their museum in Micke Grove Park. The tree had ornaments with photographs of our various events and members throughout the years with short descriptions. Surrounding the tree was an assortment of FANHSing items (books, video, newsletters, flyers, etc.)

Membership: Violet reported 169 members. New members include Laurena Cabanero (indv.), Wilma Aguinid (senior), David Maghoney (indv.), Leo and Lumie Sales (seniors), and Eudosia Juanitas (senior). Condolences were sent to member Patricia Tamayo on the loss of her husband, Claudio.

Treasurer: Virgie Melear reported that the museum checking fund had $18,883.

Exhibits: Anita and Virgie reported on the various library exhibits they put up in November and December, and the upcoming exhibits for 2006. It was noted that the military exhibit from November was featured in the local newspaper on Veteran's Day, which included an interview of Anita Bautista.

Deanna Balantac, who was not able to attend, had called in the reports for the Historians and the October Awards committee -- Historians - expenses of $60 for the year - film, albums supplies, etc. October Awards - expenses of $94.87 for the year - plaques, postage, telephone, etc. All expenses are being absorbed by the Balantacs as a donation to FANHS. They will submit their report in writing at the January 2006 meeting.

Officer Elections: Mel LaGasca felt it was better for him to focus on the Museum Project, so he has declined to run for president for the 2006-2007 term. Nominations were held for the officer positions and a slate of officers was created to be mailed/emailed to all our members, so they can vote and return the results back to us for the January 2006 meeting. Nominations were:

                    President - Terri Torres

                    Vice President - Anita Bautista

                    Treasurer - Virgie Melear

                    Secretary - Stephanie Teczon

Museum Fundraiser - Golf Tournament - Mel gave a short report about the tournament. He will have literature ready to pass out at the January meeting, where at that time, he will create committees, etc., to finalize the project. Mel has also gotten the Lions club to help us with the tournament.

Meeting was adjourned at 3:45pm. Next regular meeting will be held on Jan. 7, 2006, at 10AM at Dameron Hospital, conference room B in basement.
