Her suggestions were very well received. She encouraged each to develop a genealogy of a family member and to contact her with any questions.

Minutes of the meeting of January 8, 2005, were approved as distributed.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

The discussion which followed focused on the project of making parols and participating in the San Joaquin County Historical Society & Museum December Festival of Trees, Lodi, at Micke's Grove. Mary Louise Lopez expressed her interest in becoming involved. Joy will be setting up workshops and inform FANHS members as to dates and times.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

MEMBERSHIP: Violet Dutra reported the membership: 174 members, including 75 non-renewals. There is one new member, a student--Jennifer Morelli. During the meeting five new memberships were brought in by Maria Vea and one by Anita Bautista.

Condolences were sent to Robert Basconcillo on the passing of his mother, Angela Wasan Martin, a former FANHS member.

ARCHIVES: Bob Cabigas plans to set a time to meet once a year or more often for anyone who has items for the archives to bring on that date. The notice will be published in the newsletter to alert everyone. We currently rent an 8'X10' and 10'X10' storage units.

WAYS AND MEANS: Mel reviewed the dates of the events to be held at the Filipino Center. Mel and Moreno Balantac have donated their free dates as members of the Board of the Center, to the events:  August 20 Museum fundraiser with Bahala Na, and October 15 the Recognition Dinner/Dance. It was suggested that there be themes for events similar to last year. Mary Louise Lopez will be contacting Tony Somera to set up meetings for planning.

EXHIBIT COMMITTEE: Virgie Melear reported that several library branches have contacted her regarding displays similar to those presented in the other branches. Other possible sites were banks and restaurants. Bob Cabigas stated that there will be an exhibit at Sacramento Zoo this year as in the past. He and Anita Bautista encouraged others to contact them if an exhibit would be needed even if it may be last minute; that they have set-ups which could be utilized.

BUSINESS:

A. Treasurer: Virginia Melear reported the following account balances:
Savings                        $ 62.57
Museum Checking           17,535.99

Museum Building            12,203.59

Museum Equipment        10,220.63

General Checking           12,304.38 (with bills still to be paid)

Virgie contacted National, but has not as yet received the assessment information. She has sent the 1/3-membership dues to National as required.

Violet Dutra brought up the costs of newsletters. Since our costs have increased, we may need to consider charging non-members who wish to continue receiving the newsletter, similar to what other chapters have done. For instance, one charges $2.00/issue. It is important to distribute copies of newsletters at events to inform others of our organization. It was decided to table the discussion at this time for further study.

B. Activities for 2005 were reviewed: Mel has reserved the Victory Park picnic area for the May 14 Tri-chapter picnic. Sacramento/Delta chapter has responded. The setting up of a FANHS exhibit at the 33rd Annual Barrio Fiesta was discussed. There would not be a charge for an informational booth.

C. Mel reported that the committee will work with Little Manila Foundation and continue with planning for the future. Mel LaGasca requested that a representative of the Little Manila Foundation send the Stockton chapter of FANHS and Dorothy Cordova, FANHS Executive Director, a press release explaining their grant, the intent of the funding, funding time lines, and the status of their 501.C.3.

D. Mel has been investigating insurance coverage for the events being planned. He received suggestions from those present. If anyone knows of low cost insurance for non-profit organizations, let Mel know. We have used the following insurance agency for our August and October events: K. & K. Insurance Group, 1712 Magnavox Way, P.O. Box 2338, Fort Wayne, IN, 46801, 1-877-648-6404.

E. Election of officers was postponed. Winnie Llamera has volunteered for position of Secretary; however, she will not be able to start until April. (Both Deanna Balantac and Violet Dutra will not be able to attend the March meeting and take minutes.)

Meeting was adjourned at 1:00 P.M.
