D) Activities - Mary Louise Lopez stated that she is looking for women who were crowned queens during the thirties, forties, and fifties. Names submitted were Anita Navalta Bautista, Dolores Rosales, Aileen Juanitas Boyer, Sally Revillar Gacer, and Carmen Carido Griggs. Mary Louise is anxious to receive the names of as many surviving queens as possible. Plans are to honor them during our chapter event in August. Please contact her as soon as possible. The cost of venues for the August and October events was discussed - we have to weigh the cost of insurance, security, and the labor involved for each place before we decide which to use, i.e.: Filipino Plaza, Moose Lodge, or Stockton Airport restaurant.

E) Exhibit Committee - Virgie Melear and Anita Bautista brought some of the displays that were exhibited at the Maya Angelou and Cesar Chavez libraries. They are requesting photos and bios of early Filipinas, their family and friends and how they were involved in the community, for an exhibit at Margaret Troke Library in March. Deadline to submit photos and bios is February 15, 2005.

F) Historians - Moreno and Deanna Balantac brought the Scrap Book for 2005 and are requesting photos from the December Christmas party to add to the collection.

 a. General Checking. $4610.00

 b. General Savings 63.20

 c. Museum Equipment 10,485.00

 d. Museum Building 19,946.21

 e. Museum Checking 18,168.00

Virgie stated that there were some upcoming bills to pay out of the general checking - like storage fees and reimbursements for postage, Xeroxing, and supplies.

B) National FANHS Conference in Hawaii - An update was discussed. Mel reminded those who plan to attend to be sure and let National know. There are about ten members from our chapter attending. Mel will report on the progress of the Museum project at the Trustees meeting and on a panel, while Anita will speak on the antimiscegenation laws.

C) National FANHS Bylaws - Terri announced that the latest bylaws that we have are signed by previous National President Art Villarruz, and questioned if there were more recent ones available, as there are various errors in the old ones. Mel will bring it up at the Trustee meeting in Hawaii.

D) May 13, 2006 Golf Tournament Update - Mel introduced guest Joequita Nadal who will be working with the Tournament committee. He reported that the planning committee has met four times and has worked on brochures, flyers, mailing lists, and other plans for the tournament. Terri has contacted Dorothy Cordova and received permission to use National's bulk mailing permit. Dorothy will be sending the necessary authorization number. Copies of flyers and brochures were distributed to those present .The committee is to meet directly after the meeting today. Mel also brought in examples of two multimedia-marketing DVDs that he suggested we should think about using for the museum project. A simple brochure is not enough anymore, but a DVD that has video and photographs of our archives, as well as interviews of people stating why they want a museum, would be a more effective way of gaining support and raising funds, especially from corporate sponsors. A website of our archives would also be of use. Mel will be getting quotes from various people on the cost of developing a marketing DVD and a dedicated museum website. He also stated that since he would need to update his internet service to a DSL or cable internet, that that cost might have to be absorbed into the museum expenses, since it would be for museum business. This will be discussed at a later date.

Announcements:

A) Reminder: Terri circulated an e-mail from Mel Orpilla requesting articles to be published in the “Filipinas Magazine.” The articles are to focus on Filipino American history written by FANHS members. Contact Mel Orpilla at mel9661@orpilla.com for more information.

B) Terri Torres and Anita Bautista attended the Central Valley Asian Pacific Chamber of Commerce Mixer and were able to network and advertise the golf tournament. It was M/S/P (Mel LaGasca/ Deanna Balantac) to renew membership dues of $125 to the organization.

The meeting was adjourned at 12:45 p.m. The next regular meeting will be held on March 4, 2006, 10:00 a.m. Dameron Hospital, Conference Room B. Terri will check with Dillon Delvo to see if he can come and speak to our group and give an update on Little Manila.
