STOCKTON FANHS CHAPTER MEETING MINUTES FOR JANUARY 8, 2005

PRESIDENT Mel LaGasca called the meeting to order at 10:15 A.M. at Dameron Hospital Conference Room B. Members present were Virginia Melear, Violet Dutra, Anita Bautista, Maria Vea, Letty Perez, Norma Bantillo, and guest speaker, Ana Marcelo, member of Sacramento/Delta FANHS.
Minutes of the meetings of October 2, 2004 and December 10 were approved as distributed. If anyone finds corrections, please send to Violet Dutra at FANHS address.
President: Mel LaGasca introduced Ana Marcelo as the speaker of the day, who spoke on the topic: "Island to Island to Heartland". (See summary elsewhere in this mailer.) After the presentation, Mel called the meeting to order and passed out individual event calendars listing monthly activities to be kept up to date by each member as dates for various events, etc. were decided upon.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
MEMBERSHIP: Violet Dutra reported no change in membership: 175 members.
Get well cards were sent to Nancy Andres and Letty Perez. (Those present welcomed Letty to today's meeting and were pleased to see how well she is progressing.) Condolences were sent to Mary Louise Lopez on the passing of her aunt, Lucille Lusiani.
ARCHIVES: In the absence of Bob Cabigas, Virgie Melear and Anita Bautista reported on the success of the exhibit of archival photos and items during the month of November 2004 at Maya Angelou library, which featured Filipino-Americans in the Military, including those in World War II, Korean War, Vietnam, Desert Storm, and Iraq. Mel LaGasca brought out the need to get items in storage catalogued in an orderly fashion. He will look into information about software and prices, which could be used, similar to Haggin and to the County Museum.
WAYS AND MEANS: Violet Dutra reported that the information in December minutes concerning the October 16, 2004, event was complete with the final total being $2730.55 for the treasury. The income for the Magical Night of Giving of November 21, 2004, for the museum fund was $285. She brought out that there was a lot of competition from many different organizations also selling tickets at the same time for the latter event.
EXHIBIT COMMITTEE: Virgie Melear outlined plans to place photos in banks, restaurants, etc. She and Anita Bautista described a photo divider of three panels, which they have obtained. It is self-standing, about 4 1/2 feet tall, and holds about 15 photos. It will be useful and easy to handle for exhibits.
BUSINESS:
A. Treasurer: Virginia Melear reported the following account balances:
Savings $ 62.41
Museum Checking 17,511.66
Museum Building 12,178.45
Museum Equipment 10,171.92
General Checking 12,181.21 (with bills still to be paid)
She will send a check for 1/3 of 2004 membership dues to national amounting to $325.00. She will be contacting Dorothy Cordova about the other assessment for national.
B. Mel reported that the 2005 San Joaquin County Historical Museum Festival of Trees consists of trees prepared by different organizations, which are then displayed by the museum. Joy Neas could not attend today's meeting. It was discussed as to the possibility of making tiny parols during the year, which could be placed on a tree as decorations.
C. Mel updated those present on the National Museum Project. Though the actual building has not yet been definitely selected and will have to wait until the city completes plans for the Gleason Project, it is important to continue with the planning.
D. Insurance coverage needs to be obtained in advance for the events being planned. If anyone knows of low cost insurance for non-profit organizations, let Mel know.
E. Elections of officers will be postponed to February. Virgie Navarro was not present, but she plans to find nominee for position of Secretary.
6. ANNOUNCEMENTS:
A. Thank you notes were read from Jerry and Ellie Paular, from Maya Angelou Library, from Mark Quijana and Kilusan students.
B. Violet Dutra announced that the January newsletter has been completed and that Terri Torres has e-mailed it to be printed by CopyMax. Printing has been delayed, but should be ready by Monday, and then will be mailed out. Violet reported that CopyMax no longer has special pricing for small organizations, so our costs will be higher in the future.
C. Ana Marcelo announced that she is working on a historical research study of the phenomenon of "Sultana". She is looking for persons to interview. Call her at (916) 927-6140. She would appreciate any assistance.
