STOCKTON FANHS CHAPTER MEETING MINUTES FOR MARCH 5, 2005

PRESIDENT Mel LaGasca called the meeting to order at 10:10am at Dameron Hospital Conference Room B. Anita Bautista, Vice President, also assisted in recording minutes. Members present were Moreno Balantac, Virginia Navarro, Elena Mangahas, Mary Louise Lopez, Donald Manalo, Anita Bautista, Virginia Melear, Leatrice Bantillo Perez, and Grace Barzaga. Guests: P. Filomena Hufana, Nina Garcia, Isabelita Custodio, Sophan Sorn, and guests planning to join: Dick Teczon Jr. and daughter Stephanie Teczon.

A special request was made by Elena that Stockton FANHS participate in this event by setting up a display that day.

Elena also mentioned a meeting was held Feb.24, 2005 with Mayor Ed Chavez, Supervisor Steve Gutierrez, a representative from State Senator Mike Machado's office and a representative from Assembly Barbara Mathew's office. Plus, a private meeting was also held with the LLC partner Urban Legacy and the agency that is awarding the grant money. Both Mel LaGasca and Anita Bautista attended this meeting.

Mel LaGasca introduced our Guest Speaker Aeko Yoshikawa, who spoke on the topic: “Stockton Speaks”. UOP received a grant from the California Council for the Humanity/State History, to interview 54 individuals, which covered 9 ethnic groups. Aeko spoke for one hour covering the interview with Filomena Juanitas Hufana and Gloria Carido Nomura, plus questions. Copies of the project on CD and written scripts were handed out.

Minutes of the February 5, 2005, were approved as distributed.

COMMITTEE   REPORTS:

MEMBERSHIP: Violet Dutra sent in the following report:

Note: Of these members, 61 are in arrears.

During the month of February: Six new members, all seniors. One reinstated.

New members: Alfred & Judy Alexander, Cruz & Tommy Mendoza, Angelina Candellario Novellozo and Isabel Tabangcura. Vangie Kilmer reinstated.  Anthony and Beverly Engkabo sent a thank you note regarding the FANHS gift and condolences.

WAYS AND MEANS: We need to purchase insurance for the August 20th and October 15th events. Mary Louise will secure entertainment, OP (Old Pinoys) for our October event. Dick Teczon will check with his brother Danny Teczon band for our August event. We need donations of raffle gifts for each event. We also need to print tickets for the August event soon because we have no scheduled meetings for June & July.

EXHIBIT COMMITTEE: Virgie Melear still checking on putting up a display in the Financial Center Credit Union Lobby. We will work on a display for Little Manila on their April 9th event, at Delta College. Anita Bautista will be in charge of the display for the September 17, 2005, Filipino Reunion at the Radisson in Stockton.

(2.) FANHS National Museum accounts:

a. Museum Building Checking $10,208.58

b. Museum Building Two Year CD $19,531

c. Museum Equipment Two Year CD $ 10,220.63

Note: Actual account balances will have to be revalidated because of past CD expiration in February and March.

Virgie is still waiting for 2005 Membership assessment information from FANHS National.

B. Mel LaGasca mentioned the May 14th Tri-Chapter Potluck Picnic is set. We will need to work on a program for the day.

C. Election of officers postponed.

Meeting was adjourned at 1:05P.M.

Next meeting will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2005, at 10:00AM at Dameron Hospital basement, Conf. Rm. B.
