Meeting Minutes for Saturday, March 3, 2007

Call to Order:
President Terri Torres called the meeting to order at 10:17 at Dameron Hospital, Conference Room B.
The following information was passed around during the meeting to inform attendees:

Members Present:
Bob Cabigas, Deanna Balantac, Maria B. Vea, Leatrice B. Perez, Moreno Balantac, Stephanie Teczon, Anita Bautista, Violet Dutra, Terri Torres, Melvin LaGasca, Felomina Hufana, and Father Paul Manzano.
Acceptance of Minutes:
Deanna Balantac moved and Anita Bautista seconded the motion to accept the minutes of February 3, 2007.
Committee Reports:
- Membership – Violet Dutra reported. No change to the membership total from last month:
Family – 70 Seniors – 70 Individuals – 20 Students - 7
Total Membership: 167
New Member: Kimberly Bliss
Deceased Member: Senior Member Patricia Tamayo
Sympathy card was sent to the family of Patricia Tamayo and get-well card to Dick Teczon.
Often members send additional money beyond their renewal membership fee. Unless otherwise noted, extra money received in this capacity will be donated to the chapter’s general fund.
Membership fees for 2007 are now due. Those members who have not renewed by the end of March 2007 will be considered inactive and in arrears.
Collections – Bob Cabigas reported. He will take items to storage Tuesday, March 6th. Mel LaGasca will create an inventory form to track the location of items kept in storage or at a member’s home.
- Activities – Violet Dutra reported:
- The October 20, 2007 Annual Recognition Dinner. Violet Dutra and Deanna Balantac will serve on the food committee for this. Suggested places were Presentation Church and the Senior Service Agency. Mary Louise Lopez will continue to head the prizes and raffles. A suggested theme for the dinner was “Sports Teams”. Nominations are being accepted and are due by July 1st.
- There will be no family picnic this year due to time constraints and an already planned event on September 8th (Grand Reunion).
- Education/Exhibit – Virgie Melear not present to report. Anita Bautista reported on the February exhibit at the Tracy Public Library. Books on Filipino-American authors were displayed. There will be an exhibit in April at the Maya Angelou Library in Stockton of “Filipino-American Women: Family and Friends”; November will try to display the Filipino-American Veterans in both Stockton and Tracy; The exhibit area in Manteca is limited in space, so only a small display can be used.
Maria Vea will check on the library of Lathrop and its display area and report back to Virgie.
- Historians – Deanna Balantac to update the 2006 album with the December Christmas pictures taken at Mel and Gail LaGasca’s home. Members are reminded to submit photographs of any activities they attend for FANHS.
Business:
- TreasurerReport – Violet Dutra reported the following per bank statements of March 3, 2007:

- Patrick Johnston trophy update – Moreno Balantac will contact his daughter to see if she can contact Patrick Johnston’s office.
- Stockton Pinoy Cookbook with Little Manila – The deadline for recipe submissions is April 30th. Recipes sent to Stockton FANHS are being forwarded to Little Manila who is coordinating this project.
- PBS Documentary update – Anita Bautista reported. There will be a preview on April 30th at the KVIE office in Sacramento. The documentary is scheduled to air May 2nd.
- Family Picnic with other chapters – Because of the September Reunion, we will not have time for this. A meeting for the September 8th Reunion, ‘A Celebration of Generations’, was held on February 24th. Anita Bautista and Deanna and Moreno Balantac attended. Anita Bautista is head of the exhibit committee for the reunion. Exhibits will be displayed in the foyer. There will be students to watch the displays. Packets/Invitations for this event are being mailed in March 2007.
- Visiting students and panel discussions – Anita Bautista and Deanna Balantac reported. A group of students from Southern California, approximately 40 from UCLA, others from high school, attended a panel discussion at the Daguhoy Lodge on February 24th. There will be more students attending on March 28th from Stanford. Anita will look into creating discussion guidelines and having a sign in sheet for speakers and guests.
Announcements:
- Sunday, May 20th – The Pacific Rim Festival in Old Sacramento. Sacramento FANHS and other interested FANHS chapters will host a booth. Stockton members were asked if our chapter should participate – no volunteers at this time. The festival would be a good time to network about the FANHS Museum, but other chapters should also be providing information on this. Terri will get more information about booth size from Lisa Wire, then check back with Mel LaGasca as to whether we should participate or not.
- The Museum Project – The Second Annual Golf Tournament planning meeting will follow today’s meeting
- Next meeting will be Saturday, April 7th, Dameron Hospital, conference room B, in the basement, 10 am.
