REPORTS -

Terri Torres and Violet Dutra were in Spokane, Washington, and E-mailed the following information for their reports:

TREASURER’S REPORT March 7, 2009 - byTerri Torres

“Since I don’t have access to the accounts, I don’t have the exact totals, but not much has changed. Bills paid = post office box fee, membership (1/3) & assessment fee to National, advertisement fee to Kilusan, bulk mailing postage for Golf flyers /letters. Bills still to be paid = to Violet Dutra (Xeroxing of golf flyers/letters, envelopes, labels, etc. for Golf Tourney, Xeroxing of Feb. mailer).

“Lailani Chan emailed back regarding the process of having our books audited – she doesn’t do it, but if she finds someone for Little Manila, she’ll let us know about that person. A CPA is needed.

“Golf Tourney Report – all flyers/registration forms/sponsor & adv. Letters were mailed out around the 14th – everyone should have received something by now. Most responses will probably go to Mel LaGasca, as his address is on the mailings. I haven’t received any e-mails regarding any advertisers.

“Our Website has been updated with current information regarding chapter and golf tourney.”

So she called China Palace and they’re willing to do the same menu with hot tea for $105/table, 10 to a table, which includes tax and tip. Deposit will be $100 for Saturday, Oct. 17, 10 a.m. to 3p.m. We will go in and pay the deposit after we get back if this is the place everyone votes on.”

EDUCATION/EXHIBIT -- by Anita Bautista, President FANHS Stockton Chapter

On Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, Filipinos were honored at Arco Arena, Sacramento. Anita displayed the panel exhibit of World War II Filipino Infantry at the Arena and on Feb. 28 at U.C. Davis with Bobby Roy from Sacramento FANHS. On Saturday, May 9, 2009, 10:00 a.m. – a multi-cultural event will be held at Stockton’s Waterfront, sponsored by P.L.A.Y Multi-cultural Arts Network (Peace, Love, and You). Anita said we will have the display panels we had at the Fox Theatre last October, and a FANHS table there, and it would be nice if we have someone there to answer questions or talk about FANHS. Unfortunately, it is the same day/time as our Golf Tournament and picnic. Lorenzo Romano will set up the display as he did at the Fox Theatre, as he will be there representing Little Manila. On May 16 at the Chavez Library display, we will be able to sell our books, calendars, etc.

(Mel said that he was able to pick up about 10 panels from a business that was closing which we can use for displays).

HISTORIANS & AWARDS COMMITTEE – by Moreno & Deanna Balantac

Deanna reported that the book (album) is up to date.

OLD BUSINESS – We still do not have a COLLECTIONS chairman.

Trustees Meeting 2009 in Stockton -- For July 25-26-27, 2009, Sat., Sun., Mon. Mel has reserved the Filipino Plaza hall and the Howard Johnson Motel. He said that we need chairpersons to arrange for Food, someone for the Tour and also for entertainment.

Discussion on the 2012 National Conference – since we have not submitted a proposal and it appears Albuquerque, New Mexico has been planning for it since the Alaska conference, Mel suggested that we write a letter to National and inform them we will not bid for 2012. However, if we want to consider a conference for 2011, Mel said that we should study how to do a conference and do a dry run. Deanna Balantac moved, seconded by L. Perez, to have Terri Torres write the letter to National. Motion carried. Anita will ask Terri to write the letter.

On the mandatory Insurance for storage units, Mel suggested that we move to another storage company that does not charge for insurance. We should look for one storage space 10x12 @ $170.00 per month instead of paying for two storage units. Frances Estoista suggested that we should prepare an inventory sheet and have it for when we move the items/articles in the units.

Filipino American History Calendars – Anita reported that she has 55 calendars for 2009 on hand and they are reduced to $10.00 each. The book, Filipinos in Stockton, is still $20.00.

Complimentary meals for volunteers- Terri Torres E-mailed the following policy:

Policy draft for Complimentary Meals/free entrance for Event Workers

Any person working on an event for at least 20 hours, either prior or on the day, is entitled to the meal prepared for that event at no charge (or free entrance to the event) if the person wishes to take advantage of this offer. We would need notice/report of the person’s involvement and whether or not they wish to take advantage of offer prior to event. It would be up to the event manager to make the decision of whether or not the worker is entitled to comped meal/event.

“This policy does not include any groups, such as students ‘hired’ to help us out on the day. The event manager would hire the group on his/her own terms – such as, ‘if you send us 7 students to help out for 5 hours, your meal will be free or we will pay you $100.’

“This policy is more aimed at chapter members/officers, who work diligently on events for months prior, and it will be at their discretion whether or not they take advantage of the offer.”

Filipino Federation brick – Some discussion continued on the same questions asked last month as to the cost, size, location for placement of the brick, etc. Mel also had some questions. Since we had no answers, it was decided to table this until more information can be obtained.

NEW BUSINESS

Our Own LOGO for FANHS, STOCKTON CHAPTER. - Discussed the style, design, etc. It was suggested that this be an agenda item for the Trustees Meeting…if there is a National logo we have to use or can we have a local logo for the chapter.

Activities – the Multicultural Village event to be held on May 9, 2009, at Stockton’s Waterfront. Hopefully we can have someone there to represent FANHS. Leatrice Perez mentioned that if she didn’t attend the picnic at Micke Grove, maybe she could man the information table and the display. Her problem would be parking. If it is too far for her to walk, she may not be able to attend to the FANHS displays.

May 9, Picnic/Golf Tourney – Mel paid $300.00 down for Micke Grove and signed the contract. Mel reported that Anthony Engkabo volunteered to be the food chairperson for the picnic at Micke Grove. Mel will ask Anthony to check with Fred Rocelli if he still does Lechon pig. Lloyd Rolle has offered to help prepare signs for the Golf Tournament for free and FANHS pay only the cost of the materials.

L. Perez moved and Rossi Chin seconded to adjourn. Motion carried. Adjourned at 12:30 p.m.

Museum meeting immediately followed.

Next Chapter meeting will be April 4, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at DAMERON HOSPITAL ANNEX –NE corner Lincoln & Acacia Streets.
